5. Small holes drilled in everywhere demolish air pumps and are way more consistent than a fish pump ever could.
6. Get an analog (hair) hygrometer, they sell them at your local cigar store and they're not that expensive($7-20). Don't get the digitals because they can't accurately measure humidity because of condensation on the sensor.
7. Sunflower seeds DO NOT need to be removed from the top(also known as floaters). They add lignin to the substrate which strengthens cell walls which is a good thing). If you're looking for consistancy it doesn't matter.
8. Light doesn't cause pre-mature pinning for colonizing spawn jars/bags.
9. Corn is absolutely the worst spawning material you can use however it CAN work but it's not prefered. The best hands down is Organic Rye Berries but not easy to come by. Also for most it's expensive.
10. At shroomery just because it says 'Trusted Cultivator' under the name Doesn't mean that person should be taken seriously. They're handing them out like candy now.
11. Small mushrooms is a sign of mainly, not enough air exchange, moisture issues, low low humidity, etc... If it's too wet the mushrooms will be rotten and small...If it's too dry they'll be small, thin, cracked. Also could be a light issue too. Read more on
