Fox farm is good but spendy. I use Kelloggs raised bed & potting mix bails 3 cu ft for 10.00, add perlite, mycos and dolomite lime . Virtually the same thing as Happy frog for a fertilized soil. Roots is good but tends to have bugs. Promix for non fertilized soil is good.

You can mix Happy frog and Ocean forest and come up with a pretty hot soil.

I might start adding coco to the Kelloggs .

Local store swore by black and gold.. so far so good for me.

In the end the best is your own soup.

Unless you don't know what you're doing. I use a 15% worm castings and vermiculite mix, 10% coco fiber, 25% perlite, 50% soil. I then dress the top layer twice a week with guano and feed weekly with compost tea. Lately I've been just buying roots organic soil premixes and adding the worm castings and guano.

Good mix here

I know its a sin on this site, but I am using MG potting soil (needs perlite) and it's looking great. My hydro store swore by Jack's fertilizers and I have to agree. Jack's Classic & Bloom Booster will go a lot further for the money than liquid nutes. They have all the micro and macro nutes you need so it's pretty fool proof. Next time I will add mycos.

Here is my proof

Looks great! People will always disagree on anything. . What matters is what your successful with. I tend to avoid mg and recommending it because of the mixing, time release nutes etc. . It's a lot for a beginner.

I'm currently running Espoma Organic and really like it so far with added perlite.

$19.99 for 2 CF on Amazon It's funny because if you search Amazon for it, 1 CF is $10 more than 2 CF. All depends on the seller I guess. 2 CF was enough for me to fill 3 x 3.5 gallon pots.

ETA: I did have a couple of stray unknown seedlings sprout from the Espoma. It was only a couple, but take that into consideration.

I still vote for spending the few extra bucks for FFOF with 30% or so Perlite. If your growing in soil, your mediums critical. And its the least apt to give you problems especially if you are on the lower end of the experience scale. I found a little gardening/Landscaping supplier that sells it to me for $16 a bag and thats competitive with anything worth planting MJ in.

I have been running gardner n bloom
for a few years and I like it.
But I bought a bag of ffof
and tried it on some well rooted clones
in veg and it is very nice imo.

Im gonna run a batch in flower this time.

I got this shit called Vermisoil and it is NICE! I was using happy frog and that's pretty good but it has some clumpy shit in it I didn't like. This vermisoil is nice its like coco and other shit mixed together. I mixed with some chunky perilite.

It sounds like you need to get up to speed on soil based mediums. Research-Google-take some time to learn about what a plant needs from it and how to deliver it.
Its something you'll have to do if you want to grow stuff worth putting the time and energy ( and expense ) into growing

I found that FFOF is a great soil from start to finish for feeding plants.
It is a bit heavy, so I mix it with some peat based soiless mix, like B'cuzz.
I use a 1:1 mix on seedlings, and clones.
Then I transplant to 2:1 for primary veg, then 3:1 for the rest of the way.
I transplant into 3 different pots, first cups, then 2 gallon, then 5 gallon containers.
It works out great, hassle free without the need to add anything but water.
