best soil

So I know it's of topic but I feel like the people in this forum are past the 'learning' stage not that we aren't always trying to get better...

But what's your favorite commercially produced soil?

I've really only tried fox farm soils (used the most) and recently switched to the roots 707 mix since it's supposed to be ready to go, no mixing...

Not sure I'm thrilled with the 707... I think I've seen some light call/mag deficiencies that I didn't see with the ffof/happy frog mix.

I've heard talk about dr earth, pro mix and others just not sure if it's worth switching again. ...

You only like fix farm because you haven't tried better.. Move away from that stuff... Roots organic in the camo bag leaps and bounds better, soon as you open the bag you notice.

The stuff you make. However, if I do not have enough, Sea Soil is about as good - if a bit less diverse and preloaded.

Look for black and sticky humus sources. Not too sticky of course, you don't want to grow in muck. But this is the best way to determine humus quality. And humus quality is what makes a good soil. Sea Soil though, definitely pretty comparable to the stuff I make in terms of the humus quality. They compost fish emulsion for 2 years before they let it out in the wild :).

I think it's only available in western Canada though.

I use Pro-Mix but its not a soil it soil less mix has no nutrients I do mix in manure with the recycled pro-mix for outdoors never tried organic soil indoors though I've been meaning to try out the Soma organic raised indoor bed basically it's a table with a soil bed on top.

Certainly not a pro, but I have had great luck with Fox farm ocean forest. I always go 1/3 coco 2/3 FF and add mycorrhizae and top dress with guano, I'll still add supplemental food and call mag when needed ..
