Best ventilation light and odor?+ Trying to flower in winter! is this a mistake?

Hi Everyone! Some info leading to my Question

This is my very first grow. I have a 3.5x3.5x6.5 tent(80 cubic feet). passive intake(fresh air/wind from window is funneled to tent with duct but without any fan which means no wind no air, just room air) and no fan for exaust which I think I DO need-but am ready to purchase one now-just not sure what CFM or opening size needed for what I want to do.
I have a bat-wing, a 400 watt MH Digibulb( I'm undecided on a cooltube w/wings vs blockbuster hood, 6 or 8 inch), and a 400 watt Quantum ballast are in use now(thinking of upgrading to a 600 watt set-up sometime in the future).
Ebb-n-Flow system has been running smooth( keeping an eye on PH,TDS and adding water to res), a 25 gallon res, a 2x3 concrete mixing tub for a tray on a pvc table(eventually will get a 3x3 tray). mini-plug to 4"rockwool in Hydroton in a 8"pot with mesh bottom. The tray is set-up about 2 ft off the floor, res under the tray. Two 7 in oscilllating clip-on fans circulate the air. Also have 2ft 4 bulb floresent and plan to buy a turbo-klone soon
Entire House and Garden nute line was in use.

I have only ONE single healthy, robust "The Ultimate" strain plant(a sativa) started from seed(first successful germination after 3 earlier failed attempts) in the middle of July. It's now the End of Oct, it'll be ready to cut end of January if I flower now!(12 wk flower) It'll be freezing by then(Im on the Northeast coast).Originally she was gonna be a Mother plant but I was not able to get another smaller tent for her in time- hence the delay to flower, plus I dont want to deal with tall plants anyways. I've decided I want new seed strains to do a S.O.G. with Indicas like Grand Daddy Purple (G.D.P.).I read some guy's grow journal where he grew like 40 single cola GDP in a 3x3 tray in 4" rockwool with little or no veg time. N.F.T I think but I will adapt to Ebb-n-Flow somehow. My jaw dopped and I fell in LOVE! That is EXACTLY what I want!! so I want to finish with this plant I have now. but havent figured out how or where to keep mothers for so many clones
I think I over-vegged her for my space so I figure to flower now( I DO have 400 watt HPS Digibulb ready) because she is 3ft + tall now. Way too big. My room height is 6.5 tall, minus the almost 2 ft for res and another foot for "hood" clearance, I only had about 3.7 feet of space for growth and (this is WHY I decided to make the change. and felt have to flower now before the plant height gets unmanagable)the top was touching the bulb which I dimmed to 250 watts so the tips havent burned yet...so...Earlier today I just changed the whole set-up to a DWC. took out the res, tray, and table so I got myself an extra foot or so of space when I switched the 8"mesh bottom into a 10"net-pot with bucket lid on a 5 gallon bucket with airstone inside. A nice DWC. I think she seems to be taking it in stride. no bad signs of stress
I also understand the the plant may grow substantialy during the flower phase so I may be forced to start bending the main cola and other branches and do my best to try and get some light to the buds that will appear

So Here is my Question----------

I finally got some money for equipment so right now im ready to purchase some supplies that I need like an inline fan for exaust, a hood or cooltube and a carbon filter for 80 cu.ft to be properly ventilated of light heat and odor. should I have a 6" 400+ CFM inline fan or 8" 700+CFM inline fan connected to a fan speed controller with a y-adapter to hood and 700+ CFM carbon filter each with one 45 to 90 degree angle leading up to the exaust fan spliting the work-load on the fan --or -- should I run the exaust from the 700+CFM filter then a U-turn into hood or tube then 90 degree turn to hanging 6" 400+CFM or 8" 700+ CFM exaust fan with speed controler. will this be enough to cool the light and scrub the odor without killing the fan(heat) or filter(CFM)?what if I put another filter on the other end of the exaust as to double filter the air or is that over-kill?Is that even do-able?What effect would that have on the inline fan to have to suck through a pre-filter and blow out yet another pre-filter ?

and is it adviseable to attempt flowering this cold time of year? what will happen?will I have a lower yield from colder temps? yes im indoors and probably will have heat but not always. air must come from window and the room the tent is in (plus cigarrettes are smoked sometimes in the room)Do I need fan for intake like a booster fan?odor is a big NO-NO and i expect the plant to start kicking soon

Help please I need advice Thanks!

I make it work with a 600, a 4x4x7 space, and a 170 cfm 4" inline. My outside temps are 50-59, I pull from my window and push into my cooltube light fixture, and out my tent with the same line, temps in the tent right now are 72, but peak at 81. I flower at night in the winter. No carbon filter until week 4-5 of flowering, and by then its quite cold out and we don't have to worry about the heat so much, compensating for the reduction in cfm when you throw the carbon filter on.

Brevity is your friend with stoners, we don't always want to read a long post.

really 170 CFM is enough? wow so a 8"fan would be overkill? but I thought the exaust had to be 3 to 5 times the cubic feet plus compensating for bends in duct or am I overthinking this? also do you have any odor leak with that set-up waiting till week 4 of flowering?

no such thing as overkill when it comes to ventilation. after all the fans ive been through i wish i had just bought an 8" to start with.

2x4 with a 6" fan dimmed to 80% but when i was using my 5x5 an 8" would have been nice. i still wouldnt mind an 8" because i have a 4" in a 2x4 for veg and would like to combine them. im sure i could with the 6" but i have another 2x4 going in and i would have combined all three.

also winter is the best time of the year to grow. grow rooms temps are much manageable. its easier to generate heat than it is to take it away.

Thank you for the info polyarcturus

I just made the switch today to 12/12 . I'm leaning towards 8" windtunnel fan and I will order it Monday along with a speed controller its supposed to be the quietest fan.

whats your experience with fan brands and noise?
my tent is right next to my bed so lowest noise is important as well as odor control (cant go to work with clothes smelling like a skunk)

plastic fans are quiter but a little more pricey. for the most part all the fans are made from the same Chinese parts best bet is to DIY a duct muffler if your super woried about sound. its kinda hard to quit these things down regardless of brand.

I use a canfan 6" maxfan for my 400w with an air-cool hood. It has a built-in 3 speed controller and I run it on the middle speed. It pulls from a can33 CF and pushes air through the hood then out the exhaust without any problems. For your space a 8" is over kill IMO.

I had no idea what size fan to buy for my space ...went out bought the first one I saw which happened to be a 8" 750 cfm fan which is a overkill for my 3ft3ftx7ft space but ill be able to make it work and it'll be good if I ever want to upgrade to a bigger space and add more lights in the future

Thanks guys

Yeah it seems as though 700 CFM may be too much even at low speeds which may produce humming from speed controller

so..... 6" windtunnel + controller or 6" canfan max with built in controller

how noisy is that

What brand is this fan? any regrets? would you get a 6 if you could

lol i have x2 activeair 6" centrifugal fans and a 4" fan but if i had x3 8" fans i would be happier. dimming is no big deal just dont go below 50% and too much air is not possible. also the bigger the quite also my 4" is louder than my 6" fan.

I don't have anything to compare it too. I'd say fairly quiet but you can hear it. It's well made, moves plenty of air, the speed controller doesn't create hum and its CFM won't overdrive my CF. I'm happy it but there are many less expensive fans which may work as well. One more consideration maybe the size of the duct holes you have in your tent if you are still deciding between a 6 or 8".

I have yet to put any plants in but I have ran my setup for two days and it keeps the temps at a constant 76 degrees about 7 inches from the bottom of the hood so I should be able to get the lights pretty close with this fan sucking out the hot air. I had a 8 in hood so I figured I needed a 8 inch fan lol

But yea no regrets its not that loud once I hooked up the duct work but before I hooked it up this thing sounded like a jet taking off lol ...
