Hey guys quick question, after searching for days ive still yet to find a solid answer on a cooling issue. If you had a 1k watt hps in a 4 ft tall 3ft wide of space how would you manage to keep it cool

Holy shit you WILL need an a/c in a room that small. actually the question is, how will you keep the plants from turning into a crispy salad under 1000watts of radiant power in 9 sq ft lol at 4ft tall you are better off with two 250's or 1 400. You will have nothing but problems at 15,000 lumens a foot especially when the plants are 6" away during flower. Bigger room or smaller light.

Hint why im asking the pros XD. Would it be possible with a window unit ac, air cooled hood and pandafilm all around? Plus a chiller for the res its all dwc as well

Cool tube and 440cfm or better inline fan...You can do the whole thing on ebay for around $150.00 -$200.00 with hangers, ducting, and clamps. But if that is your only option for your grow area, with 1,000w and no way to get the heat out...you got an issue there. If I were in that situation, I would probably go with T5 combined with any other light source...LED and/or CFLs as well.

Its not the ambient temps! I mean it would take a fuck load of ventilation and 60-65f air to bring that little 1kw 3x3 into the low 80's. Regardless, thats wayyyyy to much light it will bleach those plants to death even if the room sits at 65f lol 4ft high is not enough for 1000watts period. Hell 4ft high is probably not enough for a 600. A 12" pot and 12" plant which is small, is probably gonna be a foot away from that 12" hood! You will need to flower your girls at 5" high and shit they could still stretch too close to the light. Im with $bk, use cfl's or low powered led's. If you really want an hps, use a single air cooled 400 and flower your plants short. If your stuck with that cab, i would stick near the blue spectrum of lights(mh/6400k)

Thanks for the advice what if i was running some setup like a mars or some diy led, im tech savy and there is allot of tuts around here would that be more optimal for such a small area?

I have a 20"d x 36"w x 60"h tent...very small. I have a 400w HID running with a cool tube and a 220 cfm booster can fan. I can have this light VERY close to the canopy. I had it 1.5 feet away when they were barely old enough to transplant. Yes some of the new growth came in very slightly yellow but all has turned green and they are very healthy. I am positive I could go 1,000w if I add an inline fan to exhaust and keep the booster for intake...or vice versa. But the heat still has to go somewhere. I exhaust into my living area and keep that cool. But, again I use 400w currently

Would a t5 do better in that small of a area? I have two rooms but some things went down and i had to ditch the one i was running my 1k. I currently run the veg room which is a 6 1/2 tall 5 wide and 5 deep with just a t5, i thought about moving it to the the new 4ft room as well

The general consensus amongst LED pros is the DIY method. Commercial units are over-hyped and over priced. There is a separate forum here on RIU for LED growing. It is great you are tech savvy. As for me I have a hard time with a screwdriver, LOL!!

It's strain dependant imo. I run fixed 1kw hoods at 6ft high in a 5x6 room, i let my tops get as close as 8-12" i can put my hand on the glass and its just slightly warm after hours of being on. Some pheno's dont like it at all. If you run the same cuts that dont mind it then yeah, you can do it over and over but from seed it can be a total headache sometimes.

You might be able to pull it off however
For him being a new grower, i wouldn't want him to stick 1kw in a 3x3x4. He literally has 36" to play with for a plant, pot, flower stretch and height from cola to glass then he's gotta deal with all that heat i wohld expect 2lbs out of that room, if not its a waste of elec. I also, couldnt see a difference going from 400w to 1000w with only 9 cubic ft of floor, maybe bugger popcorn nugs but i would have trimmed lower growth in a room that tight anyway.

I am absolutely sure I could go to 1,000w in my tent. I have only about 3.5 feet of available and usable space after adding the height of my gurlz. I have super cropped along with having the light very close. So they stayed short but have gotten very bushy as a result. I am going to be adding a screen and Scrog growing to finish them...2 plants. very healthy.

If you are interested the journal link is in my signature.

BUT, this is not my thread. To the OP, I am of the opinion this may be a doable lighting scenario...Ventilation will be very key...but it is doable.

Good Luck and Great Growz

Yeah actually 3.5ft of gap between the light and girls is good enough. This guy has 4ft from floor to ceiling lol not including 1000w hood, pots, plants and flower stretch

I have only 1 more foot of available space then he does. I still maintain it can be done. Would require a wider not deeper pot, a good amount of training and again, awesome ventilation.

BUT even though I still say it is doable, I have and still do recommend other light sources.
