Big bites stunt growth of plants??

Alright... I have two plants.. one 3 weeks and the other 2 weeks old.... the three week old is a bout an inch and a half tall...and has its two platonic leaves and its first two fan leaves... today i saw the little budlets for the next two fan leaves emerging.... anyways.. i have posted about that plant before because it appears to ahve been bitten by some kind of bug half way up the stem, but the plant is still very alive.
Moving on.. the two week old plant has the exact same leaves (no budlets) but is almost 3 1/2 inches tall....and no bug bite on the stem.. what does this mean? could the bite have stunted to growth (heightwise) of the plant? Or is this difference possible the result of it being one male and one female? they are the same seeds so i know thats not the case... any ideas people? :joint:
