Black algae overnight?!?

Okay so I have a homemade aerocloner had 4 clones in for about 3 weeks nice long white roots then BAM over night what looked to be BLACK algae? Suffocating all my beautiful roots, also black particals floating on the top layer of water and clinging to the sides of the bucket walls.(looked like soot)

Nutrients(AN; Voodoojuice, connoisseur AB grow bloom)
Rootzone temp(low68°high73°)
Canopy temp(low70°high80°)

I don't feel this is root rot or light leaks.
Never had a problem before. Just before this happened I had 2 older clones from a week before in the same aerocloner with the other 4 clones. I transplanted the 2 older clones into my dwc buckets with no problems they are still beautiful!

I don't know maybe I'm too high or not high enough to see the problem.KELP ME!!!

It can happen fast in a small cloner. That's root rot, or pythium no question about it. You've got to change out your res at least every 10 days or less. This is why checking ph religiously in any hydro system is super important even though it can be kind of a pain in a small cloner. If the ph keeps rising up and you can't seem to adjust it down there is bacteria present in your res you need to get rid of.
Now to fix it. Luckily your plants are not that far gone and should recover given cleaner conditions. Rinse all that gook off as best you can under the tap & try not to pull off too many roots. Some roots may need to be trimmed off that is ok but will slow recovery. Next drain, take apart, and rinse your cloner. Soak everything in bleach that has slime in it and scrub it til clean. That includes air hoses and/or aero nozzles and inside your pump too.
When you refill go light on the nutes and add in some hydrogen peroxide. Every time you change out the res every 10 days or less wipe out the inside of your cloner and any surface touching water with bleach wipes and rinse well. Get some kind of bacterial control product like hygrozyme to help prevent this in the future. Check ph everyday; it's the first line of defense

I think I figured the cause! So just the day before this happened I moved my 2 older clones I had in with the other 4 into there own dwc buckets. I did a Rez change in the cloner and I used a sink I have in my garage.FUCK. I guess the water from that sink is like water from a garden hose.FUCK. Black splooge the next day. Ever hear of iron bacteria? Think a RO filter would fix this? I would like to use the garage sink instead because the house sink is a pain in the ass to fill in.

Interesting. Never had an issue with water sources just the contaminated areas around them.

Got enough DO in the resi?

Wouldn't Root rot need environment conditions meet before a bloom occurred?

My understanding of iron bacteria is they output blood red on surfaces and sheet.

Edge of my scope and just tossing out there.

No RO water won't fix it nor do you ever need to use it in a hydro system. The problem is that nutrients also feed any bacteria present. I give my plants water from a dehumidifier. Unless the water you added was laden with bacteria that wasn't the culprit. You never want to veg too long in a cloner; once they got roots put them in their own dwc bucket of whatever. Keep it clean! Just changing out the water is not always enough.
