Blackstar 240 LED -vs- 150 Watt HPS

Ok I pulled the trigger on ordering an LED. Unfortunately I only did so today so you and I will all have to wait. I wont be doing a side by side of sorts but I'll be doing the same strain in the same cabinet. I'll pull my old photos out from the other grow and at least make the comparison look good showing pics at the same ages of growth. Really this thing only needs to equal my 150 for me to consider a good buy. The promised longer life along with lower temps are what got me to go for it.

TO BE CONTINUED!

I would like to mention that the 150Whps consume more like 160W with the ballast while the blackstar consume 135W... I think the blackstar will crush your previous results if you veg long enough to have a lot of bud sites at the same height!

I wanted to do a side by side of a 150w hps myself. It wold be very close to my led since mine pulls 170.

If i could stay within my legal plant count i would love to have about 4 more of the small cabs I have, so many experiments, so little area.

The led is going in the cab when I get it so the comparison will only technically be able to go to like day 60 from seed.

Man those led fuck with your eyes after you look at them awhile, not even at them, just in their presence. I leave the closet and everything is dim and green! I haven't seen any wow omg growth in the 2 days I've had them running lol. Glad I have pics of all other ages of my 150 plants to compare against cuz I can't go from memory for shit.

can that blackstar be used for VEG and flower? or would i have to get the veg and flower blackstar separately?

They sell both models but supposedly you can go full grow with the flower model. Kind of like using an hps for your whole grow. I only have the flower model.

hahahaha love it! I found that one out the hard way too. I didnt realize until after I got my head out of my tent and the whole room was green and when I closed my eyes I could see a rectangular bright spot, pretty sure my retinas are now burned like Joan of Arc.

Lookin good! How many gal bags are you using? Also what brand are those .. they look nice with the handles. I bought some hydrofarm ones and also smart pot and neither have the handles.

So I'm trying for 24" from the seedlings and lil ones. Which puts the light around 9" from the top of my tallest plant. I'd love to be able to have good coverage without propping them up with cd cases and empty pots.

hey dude, i have the 3 gallon and a couple 5 gallon island grow pots. They are made out of very durable material. love the handles as well. very easy to pick up. i veg for 3-4 weeks in the 3 gals and 5-6 weeks in the 5 gallons with no problems. best drainage from pots ive ever had.. less chance of getting root rot because the roots are always prune to oxygen & less chance of over watering because the water doesnt get trapped unlike some plastic pots.

You know I gotta say I don't actually like the way the plants stay wet longer. I had the 150 watering cycle down pat and now it's extended out like another day. At this rate they'll only get fed once a week. I guess I should enjoy the nute savings!

Ugh I just went through making an update and totally brain farted that the plant I was going to compare against already started under the 150 for the last 3 weeks so for the sake of correctness, I deleted it!

Im on the fence about the watering issue. They take so much less water... I could see people easily having overwatering issues, myself included! Im actually using the scale again cuz my perception is so fucked up now.

I've decided to change up my mix because the plants aren't using as much water now. I'm going with 40% happy frog and 60% perlite with some bone meal added. Should get it back a little more to what I'm used to. I don't know, I'd just rather water more often than this. I think it makes it a little less critical of nute issues this way. There's alot of runoff now which is new to me as well, they have to sit in the sink now to get a good draining.
