Hello, I was wondering if a plant can still veg. well if it is grown under a bulb that gives off more of the red spectrum than blue...I have a solarMAX MH 400w Gold and it seems to be more for flowering/fruiting. It sais its all your plant needs from 380 to 760 nanometers...whatever that means, I'm new to this all.

MH 400w is the blue end of the spec = veg
I did some research on the bulb and found that it is high in the red spectrum and lower in the blue unlike the usual metal halide bulb. (not your typical metal halide bulb).

what, so it's a horticultural typre bulb thingy?

if so, then those can be used all throughout veg + flower.

I also read somewhere while doing my ongoing research that a lot of MH bulbs can be coated to up the reds at the expense at lost lumens on the blue. Would this be the case on your lamp?

Quite possibly, but i think its just the type of MH bulb that he has.
But its not a bad bulb or anything, he can use it for both veg and flower,
which is a plus on your part because then you don't need to waste money on
a switchable ballast or a hps ballast for flower.:eyesmoke:

i wouldnt suggest doing anything to your bulb. Only thing you can do is get a different bulb or get 1000w lamp =D
