breeding autos

wasn't sure which topic to post this. Anyways I have a male auto and I want to make my own seeds because I am on a pretty tight budget right now. Do I just wait for the balls to open up and drop pollen then collect it and brush it on my female? The thing is I don't want to pollenate my whole female. The male is in a seperate room. So I was thinking I could just do some of the plant that way I get some seeds to grow again and some decent smoke still.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to when in the females growth is best to pollenate?

I know you can't clone autos and I'm not sure you can breed them that way either. They may all be first generation hybrids.
