res temp needs to be lower, it should be around 70-72 to keep bacteria from growing. also check for any light leaks, invest in some black tubing from the pet store, and if the brown stuff is above the water on the sides it maybe just nutrient stain- just wipe it off when you do water changes. hope this helps, all this came from searching around here

Just Cleaned the res with a very light bleach/water treatment also added a few ML of h2o2 and scrubbed and scrubbed and rinsed and rinsed. I then added 1ml of h202 to a deep bowl of water and dumped my roots/net pots into the treatment and cleaned the brown residue off the roots I then sprayed the roots lightly with the faucet spray. I'm going to let the roots sit over night and dry out a bit as i soaked them with all the cleaning I will add new water first thing in the AM and top it off with 50ml of hygrozyme to kill of any still existing bacteria. I started freezing about 8 bottles of water to try and maintain the temps in my rez thanks for the help afro will let you know how things are looking in a few days good health and growing to you my friend peace Jblaze
