they are red.
they don't look like spider mites, the mites I had were a bit transperent - thoes are opaque.

they are tiny, you can see my finger for comparision.

Check out Aza Max from General Hydroponics. It can be used as foliar, drench, hydro/aero, or soil. Its organic and is working well in my indoor garden on fungus gnatts. Google it

Googled it. Looks like you have harvest mites, the adult form of chiggers. These buggers don't bite you, but their larvae certainly will. The adults eat plants so get rid of 'em asap!

From one website: "If they have found their way into your houseplants, move the plants outdoors and soak with a mild insecticidal soap (read the product information label to be sure that it is safe for edibles or houseplants) to kill the adults and larvae. Keep the plants away from people and pets and repeat this process weekly for 4 weeks."

Another source for you: http://www.buzzle.com/articles/ways-to-get-rid-of-chiggers.html

Close up: does this look like what you have?

doesn't really look like it.
thoes chiggers seem pretty big, mine are REALLY small.

i'll try to get some microscoped pictures soon.

EDIT:
looked in the microscope and they are certainly spider mites. I still got the stuff needed to get them out from a previous infestation.

thanks a lot everyone :D

Oh that pic is just a big magnification, harvest mites are about .5 mm. I'm glad you were able to find out your problem. Good luck though, I haven't had spider mites yet and after reading the forums I'm scared as shit of getting 'em.

retardigraded, my mites infestation wasn't that bad and was gone pretty quickly.
if you treat it fast its pretty managable - just get some neem oil or garlic spray or something.
if your having a big infestation you might consider getting some hardcore chemical to kill em off. it will stress your plants and you will have to rinse em up in 2 weeks or so, but it solves the problem fast.

the key is to be alert to any problem coming.

That's comforting. I still have some 3-in-1 neem oil based spray from when I had fungus gnats. I also make sure to check under the leaves every few days or so. I just don't want to have a near-permanent infestation like some people on here post about. Fuck those little things, seriously.
