What can I do to ward off bugs? Like Japanese beetles, mainly. I checked my shrub today, and its got a few beetles on it and I want to take care of them before its too late.

Would a spray of cayenne pepper and water do the trick?

Don't fret! At my local small town farm market there is this a solution called Milky Spore that kills ALL Japanese Beetles. All you do is mix it with soil and it's something to do with Japanese Beetles laying eggs underground. It's suppose to be the end all product for getting rid of these guys. After your first soil mix they won't come back for 2 years or something after. My dad is going to use it in our veggie garden this upcoming spring.

I don't know what the pH is of this stuff or it can harm your females so I would try to mix it a little far from your harvest.
