Call me Crazy 400w HPS in a PC CASE!

I know it would be over kill but I have both and no space.

I have a bake a round to make a cool tube and two 120mm pc fans, that push 80cfm each, I think that would cover heat issues.

Then make an active carbon filter to cover over another 120mm pc fan,
with a passive intake.

It is a large pc case, talking 22" high

going to cover the inside in white and it would be a soil grow

I have a 400 watter, your going to need bigger fans, its not impossible to do what you say you want to do, but its definitley going to be hard.

CRAZY! Just had to comment cause I wanted to follow the thread. I'm putting a 250 in a small box in a couple of weeks (ballast rated up to 400) and looking for heat tricks.

Do you think it be better to have the fans as one being an intake and the other an exhaust

OR

Double up the fans by stacking them and just having double intake fans or double exhaust.

I run 400 watts n your gonna have some trouble. Probably be better of buildin a custom box a little bigger and if you are using a reflector and cool tube that will take up some space in a pc case. Just my2 cents

Crazy it will be almost impossible to do.You will need to move alot of heat every minute and even that you will still have heat problems. How big is your case?

wow man thats ambitious, during flower things get hot in my 1.2m x 1.2m x 2m tent using a 600w hps and ive some big 6" fans, both inlet and exhaust. As said above can you not make some sort of d.i.y. box? Give yourself more space for clearing heat, and more space is more bud. Just line a wardrobe with mylar or something.

That would be the best bet.24 in is not enough room for autos when using a 400.You need more top space a pc case will not give.

You may have to put an inline fan on the outside of the case. My box is only 26 in wide and the cool tube that's coming is 19 in. How to vent and fan is going to be an issue for me.

Yeah I run a 400 in my veg it's mh and it's hot(for a3.5x3.5x3.5) my 250 hps is just as hot so a 400hps is gonna be hot hot hot. Remember hot=loose buds, 250w on line for 80$ used everywhere, or even a new 150w external ballast for like 90 new I think. Think about it u'll get better quality do less(and the money u spend u'll make in more product/energy saved)

i have a "cooltube" design for my 250 watt CFL (actual wattage) with two 120mm fans in my 23" high, 22" deep, and 8.5" wide PC case and it really doesnt get that hot, unless the cooltube fans are off for even a minute or two, but id definitely like to know if stacking the fans on either the exhaust or intake would make a difference

Keyword cfl. That does not put out as much heat as a 400 hps.

As wyteberrywidow stated a 250w cfl aint nearly as hot as a 400w hps, I use cfls in veg and I can touch the bulb without fear of burning. A single input and output fan would suffice but obviously the more the merrier. A small fan inside the case blowing upward and a 120mm pc fan drawing hot air from the top/back of the pc case would be ideal in conjunction with a 120mm input fan at the bottom of the case, there would be good air movement, certainly adequate to deal with cfl temps, if not just add another 120mm exhaust fan.

So i have come to the conclusion that... i am indeed crazy haha

I really dont have much room to grow, live in a small apt
So i wanted something stealthy

Im getting the pc case for free, so I'm leaning more towards that rather than building something
Now that I think of it, I do have a 70w hps that i could put in a cool tube.

I was thinkin maybe get one more and have dual 70's in one cool tube

Hmmm back to the drawing board.

If you look at my sig, i have done cfl's once in the past.
Turned out great

Little off topic here but has anyone ever grown a bonsai tree? lol they look sooo F'n SWEET

Im sure you could make it work with the 400w but you would need 6" fans for the cooltube so it wouldnt be so stealthy. That 70w hps would prob be better than 200w of cfls, coud work sweet for the pc case. And yes your right bonsai trees are totally sweet and Id love to grow one but my deicious fruit bearing girls take up more than enough of my time (my girlfriend gets jealous sometimes because I spend more time with my girls than I do her)
