Can a Michigan patient get legal in Ontario

Hello northern brothers! I have a quick question: Can a Michigan MMMP patient get legal in Ontario?

My wife and I are considering a trip to the Treating Yourself Expo and wondered if it was possible to get legal in Ontario prior. I live in the Detroit area so a visit to Windsor for paperwork ahead of time would be relatively easy.

Thanks,

hmmmm..... that's a tough q.

the process here is -
1. get a doctor signature (you'll have to find a doctor willing to sign or go through one of the clinics that provide that service like Do No Harm Clinic);
2. submit the forms to Health Canada;
3. stay close to your phone in case they call with further questions/clarifications (which, if you miss it, you can't call back and your name goes back to the bottom of the call list again);
4. wait for your license to show up in the mail (i hear it's a 10+ week wait these days).

except, if i'm not mistaken, you have to be a canadian resident..... i don't know about coming up this direction, but i DO know someone whose license became invalid when they gave up their permanent resident status and moved out of canada.....

here's a link to the health canada mmar page, hopefully you find the info you need (good luck!)

Thx mellokitty. It would be nice if Ontario/Canada would just recognize my US/Michigan certification as a guest. I know many states here except out of state cards. May be someone knows the answer or has some further guidance.

Just remember your legal buds on either side aren't legal at the border even if you had paperwork for the states and Canada.

@Garm I'm not looking to bring any meds on the trip with us. I just want to be able to partake without legal issues while at the Treating Yourself Expo or related events.

Thanks again,
Tom

The Treating Yourself Expo 2013 is going to be held on the weekend of May 24-26. Is anyone else planning on attending? Any suggestions for MJ tolerant lodging near the Metro Toronto Convention Centre?

Thanks,

Did you get a hold of Health Canada? I know there are clubs in Toronto that will probably honor your card. They operate in a grey zone. I'd call and ask them as well. It's going to be pretty laid back regardless.

Ive been to TY Expo last 3 years. A real pleasure to buy a pack of Kali Mist right from the hand of Simon. $100 too. Swerve, greenhouse, DNA a lot of the big boys are there. I drive in but you can get info on accomadations on the TY website forum

I have no idea what the best options in TO are. I live on the other side of the country I'm afraid. I'd give em a call though to see if they will honor your card.

Just spent some time perusing the Treat Yourself website. Looks like I need to apply for some press passes this year. We'd be thrilled to cover it.

Just a hunch, but I'd guess someone at the event would be more than happy to assist you if you show your card. But I totally understand how difficult it can be to not have a supply guaranteed.
