i dont have time to give it the attention it needs right now but i will in about a month or so. if anybody knows if its possible to take a stem cutting and freeze it in a conventional freezer and then thaw it out and replant it a month and a half later please let me know.

I believe it would freeze to death, would kill the plant, you can keep the plants in vegetation if you are worried about the smell during flowering. Or just take one cutting and use it as a mother plant. So in a month and a half when you are ready to go full bore again you can just root the cuttings of the mother plant. It will take you a couple weeks anyways to get the roots to go through the rockwool, so you would be able to keep them in a try aswell.\

Yes, smokincrazy is right, it will freeze to death.
Just put the roots in a cup of water and leave it there. You'd need to change the water in the cup every day or two, but that would keep it alive.

I found this on one of my old photo disc's. Its how i kept them alive until i put them in dirt. They floated there for about a month. The sides of the cup should be covered so no light can get through, but it worked anyway. It would have rooted faster with no light on the roots, but i was in no hurry.

Mr. Wolf,

You can put the clones in rockwool cubes and maintain them for several months with a small CFL and water.

cheers

So is it a yes or no? Cause isn't it that if you freeze a plant it'll just die (any plant) like everyone else said?

Lol garden knowm, i LOVE YOUR AVATAR!! I can just stare at it for like 10 min, and i dont even know why i like it. its catchy lol.

How about the refrigerator instead of the freezer?? I know there is a how to some where on this site with pictures on how to do this. You can keep them a couple of months before using them with this methood. I haven't tried it, but others have and it works.

Clones in Stasis
Cuttings in bagKeeping your clones in stasis by using your fridge is a handy way to both store them for future use or keep backups should there be some failure with your original cuttings. I have personally kept cuttings up to eight weeks using this method.

Simply put:
1) Take cuttings as you normally would, but with the one addition of leaving a longer stem, as you will be trimming this down further by at least half an inch when it is time to root them.

put in with Grey Poupon2) Place cuttings in a Ziploc bag (Tupperware can be used also.)There should be enough water in the bottom of the bag so that the stems are submerged. RO or good quality tap water should be fine. An inch or two should be in the bottom of the bag, keeping the stems wet.

Breathe some air into the bag, mainly so as not to crush the leaves and provide some cushion as they may get bumped about in the crisper drawer.

**Another variation on this is to simply put the cuttings in a water glass or jar (an ice cream bucket works well too -> basically, wide and shallow containers) and have them sit on the shelf in the fridge (stems also in water). This may or may not be convenient or stealthy for you.

3) I would recommend that you replace the air and water in the bag once a week. I have typically not bothered to replace the air or water at all for up to four weeks, but I continually come across this information and it seems like it cant hurt.

4) When you decide it is time to use your cuttings, remove them from the fridge and let them sit with their stems in a glass of water for half an hour or so to warm up as you prepare your cloning materials.

5) Cut half an inch or more off the stem to make a fresh end that you will dip in your favorite rooting hormome or rooting medium. I have found that fridge clones, if let to sit longer than a few weeks, will take longer to root.

This is fine for most since many are buying time with this method anyway. Clones older than 2 weeks will usually begin to root in 10 days and are mostly established by 14 days.

*Be sure that your fridge does not have a tendency to freeze your food. It should be stable. If your clones freeze, they will die. Happy Cloning.

You cannot take a cutting and throw it in a freezer, it will not live. You also cannot throw it in the fridge, it will not live. If you want to delay your plants life then i highly suggest just growing from more seed, its natures way of keeping plants forever. Grey poupon is mustard for eating, I don't suggest putting cuttings into it.

You could clone out a cutting and give it low dose of ferts and low light levels to keep it small until you are ready to get after it.

Unless your a Cryogenic engineer, cold does not keep plants alive. Every year in nature all the MJ plants die, only their seed survives to keep the genetic line going.

What wait. I've done it and learnt it on this site! Not freezing them but, I have had clones in the crisper for up to 2 months with no problems reviving them. like 20 of them all lived. I do the bag method without the inch or 2 of water. I just open the bag every few days and spray them with a mister.

You also see flowers at stores (like Wegmans or Topps stores, probably any big super markets) that are in coolers to make them last longer. The frig will work. Many have done it. I personal haven't, but learned about it on this site. I know there is a how to with pictures of the cuttings after sevreal weeks in the frig. It can be done. I agree freezing them would kill them, but the cool temps of the frig will make them last a long time with out killing them.

I don't see why not. The guy in that link said he kept them 8 weeks like that. I would imagian the longer you keep them the longer it takes to root them.

Cell damage people and stress stress you may end up with some hermies just make a clone a mom like nodrama said endless clones whenever. cold will damage any plant but slows decay at our nursery we would never ever do any such thing cold is for keeping flowers fresh not growing. mums and cold wheater plants like it 40 pot is tropical I'd just root on and clone it to save a strain just my 2 cents...it probably works but...stress=hermies:(

Right! I wouldn't do it with a strain that I know had hermie traits, I don't like growing anything with hermie traits, just cause my style, lst, topping, training etc. I'm sure there are some badass strains that have hermie traits and out do any other as long as you keep them happy! The strain I stored in the fridge went 8 weeks and still rooted fine, of course they took longer but speed wasn't an issue.
