Can I make my soil more drainable?

Here is the thing. My plants are about 5 weeks old and i want to feed them more but my soil doesnt drain that well. I could easily get away with watering them once a week but i want to feed them more. About a week ago i transplanted the headband plants into 3 gallon buckets. I filled the bottom with about an inch or 2 of perlite and then topped that with happy frog soil. I have watered them twice in the last week and barely any water came out of the bottom and believe me i watered them enough. Is there anything I can do to make my soil more drainable?

Try using a coco medium. I have to water my plants every day and a half there's so much drainage lol. You'll get plenty of time to give them nutes this way.

Well first off, I wouldnt have used just perlite in the bottom (it great if mixed into soil, but just a layer on the bottom seems like a bad idea, as it will retain water. Providing you have lots of drain holes in the bottom of the bucket, you should have used rocks or some other type of stones to help drainage, also rasing the buckets will help....you can place them on some bricks or blocks of wood, this will allow for the water that passes out the bucket, not to be soaked back up into the soil.....also allows for some air to get under the bucket.....helping the soil dry out between waterings. You can also take a wood rod/dowl or something like that and poke deep holes into the soil around the plant before watering, this will help the water drain from bucket a bit faster. Hope this helps.

mix your soil with a 1/4 ratio perlite this will defantly help.
