can i run my hps 12/12 during veg

so this is my first post ever. im planning on starting a 150w hps closet grow. 1 plant lst. so my question is can i veg with the hps already on the 12 12 schedule if i keep my cfls on along with it 24/7. any thoughts or opinions would be helpfull.

so i might as well just not even use the hps then til flower? cuz yea if i was hopeing it would speed up the veg time a little and also save me some money in electricity but if thers no point then guess i wont

thanks for the info guys. im gonna give it a shot. its seems to me that if i have 16000 extra lumens for 12 hours a day this should speed up the vegging process but i guess ill just have to wait and really see.

Yes, as other folk have already said.....but keep the hps a few feet away if they are very young seedlings.

It should work, but wait until your seedling passes three weeks growth. You will notice a major difference in the plant at that time. Prior to that the plant is establishing a root system and too much light will interfere. When they are small they don't have the foliage to use a lot of light, the overload only stresses the young seedling.

I think Barrelhse has it right. I started with a single 45w 5500k CFL on 24/7 and have been upgrading bulb by bulb to match the size of the plants. I think I was at 3 weeks when I finally put the LED in.
