Sorry of this is a stupid question I tried searching google, no clear answers but a thread on here seemed to suggest I can however I wanna be 100% sure.

I have a standard HPS ballast i want to buy a high output hps/super hps can i just take my normal hps bulb out and put this new one in? Or does it require a special ballast?

I cant recall what make the ballast is, but it is magnetic. Im posting this thread now while i have time but will find out what make the ballast is next time im in the grow room if need be.

Thanks:confused:

what is a high output 1000 watt? and i dont think they would make a bulb like that and have it require its own high output ballast, but i have seen more stupid things like the 430 watt...

who is making this bulb? how much is it? and what makes you think it will be better then say a hortilux? if it is a hortilux then no its good to go

Yes, i have an apollo ballest and am running an ipower "super" hps bulb. Works great. Bulb seems a bit brighter then the standard apollo bulb but gives off quite a bit more heat.

The "super" hps bulb is supposedly like 4000 more lumens then a standard bulb.

hey amgprb how you like your Apollo, what size is it?
Love it, NO complaints. I am running my 400 right now. I also have an apollo 600 that I will use during the winter. I ordered another 400 last week (should be here any day now) and I will be dimming that one down to 200 and using a MH for my veg room.

I had 2 lumatek 400 watt ballests in the past. I had stopped growing for 2 years and sold em to my buddy. I honestly like the apollos better. They run much cooler. Have to warn you though, they are quite loud as they have cooling fans built in. Almost as loud as my exhaust fan.

I never heard of "eye" hortilux. HORTILUX are a GREAT bulb. I did a quick qoogle search and (eye) hortilux are only 1/3 the price of HORTILUX. IMO, it is probably a knock-off of hortilux. For the price (roughly $20) i would possibly give them a try, but to answer your question, I have never used them so couldnt say if they are or are not any good.

No need to be a fucking asshole. I never heard of it called "eye" hortilux. If hortilux & "eye" hortilux are the same company then yes, it is a good bulb. And go ahead you illiterate fuck, do a google search, and you will see it come up for $20 at many different places online. I am sorry that you are a gullible dumb fuck that cant do research prior to making a purchase and continuously are getting raped by your local hydro store.

lol, i provided links to back up my findings you did not. once again how long have you been gardening? there is no hortilux/ or knock off bulb for 20 bucks.

the reason i feel the need to be a dick is because you posted with no knowledge on the bulb then suggest that it was a bull shit bulb.... so you have no knowledge of it, you think you found it on the internet, and you haven't provided a link....

yep you can get them cheap on the web... but i have had one of these bulbs not work and guess what ebay isnt going to refund it. the store that i get them from date marks the bulb and if it dies with in a year they give me a new one.... even if you go through all the hops ebay makes you go through to return products, shit you will be a month into flowering by then

moral of the story dont be cheap, you guys are buying one 400 or 600 try buying 14 1000 watts you would be pissed if you couldnt take it back if it didnt work.

First, i will apologize for the manner in my response this morning. I had just woken up and was exhausted. Didnt really appreciate being called a moron. It was really un called for as I said it was my opinion. I stated I had NEVER used it and after doing a quick search and finding numerous places for around $20, I gave my OPINION, never claimed it to be fact. example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261239304462?redirect=mobile

I really do not need to dignify you with my gardening experience, but I have been for 15 years (had taken a couple years off in between).

I have used most brands of bulbs. DEPENDING on your situation, you do not need to buy $100 bulbs. Yes, if you ae growing commercially using 14 bulbs then I too would be buying top of the line. If you are just doing a small 400 watt personal grow, then mid grade bulbs work just fine. I buy 2 at a time as i like having a spare. Both the Apollo and the Ipower bulbs have worked great. My apollo bulb lasted 2 grows (still works) but I replace my bulb every other grow. This is the first round with the Ipower bulb. Has been runnin almost 7 weeks now with no issues.
