Can other plants be grown with your CFL?

It's impossible to grow pretty much anything outdoors here, and I've always wanted to have a little indoor garden, but all the plants I look at seem to need HID lighting... but do you think one could possibly stick them in one's CFL setup and have them grow as well?

I might try growing some other types of plants anyway, since it's cheap, but I would like to know what my chances are first. (I.e., can one just mimic the color temperature found in HID light or does something make them special?)

I actually grow Some herbs, Dill and parsley, Tomatoes and cucumbers under a Simular Light setup as my sign. Seems to work great, The Cucumbers havent done anything yet, But the Dill and Tomatoes Are going well!

Add Chillis and Jalapenos to the list - they grow great.
