Yes you can, but it will create hot spots and burn the plants. Mirrors are a no-no as well as aluminum foil for the same reason.

150w =2-3 oz

250w = 3-4 oz

400w = 5-8 oz abouts

u didnt include the lumen rating,u could lets say 300w of incandescents that put out a total of 2000lumen,by of witch u say,the wattage affects the total yeild,i know what ur sayin but u shouldve make it clearer with like u should expect xamount for certain lights and lumen rating.

Not such a good idea the reflection off mirrors tends to cause intense beans of light which could ultimatley cause light damage to foliage.

How many equivalent watts does it take to get atleast a ounce from 1 plant using cfls

Believe it or not, mirrors actually absorb a LOT of light. Plus the above mentioned issue of hot spots.

Sorry to like jump in on this convo....i hear that HPS lights are the best... but what is everyone else's opinion cause i'm sure that some lights are good for some things and others are meant for other things...what's your opinion's though and the reason why its your opinion.

Well you can't use mirrors with sunlight, that's like taking a magnifying glass to an ant.

I'm trying one mirror with my CFL grow. I think low light like a CFL won't have enough energy to burn even in the hottest hot spot, but I guess we'll see. By the way I am using a first surface mirror, the kind used in rear projection TV's for the absolute minimum loss. (light doesn't have to pass through the glass twice, the reflective surface is on top of the glass.)

I may line the whole grow with them if I start to see good results.

Aside from all the reasons stated here, mirrors are decidedly inefficient reflectors. Why spend money for all the lumens you get from HID lights, and sacrifice anywhere from 25% to 30% of that light? Get a good reflector/hood and have it powder coated flat titanium white. That would be the best reflector (95%), and the titanium white will not change the color temp of the light source.

If you're gonna use mirrors, thats the way to do it! Way less light loss. Still and all, I'm skeptical. Besides those mirrors are usually more that your avearge homegrower is willing to spend. The only ones commercially/readily available that I can think of are for use in telescopes, and they are concave. anything that falls right at the focal length of it will get fried. First surface mirrors, maybe with a spray matte finish? You want a soft, diffuse light. Not a harsh direct light (Kind of like the light you get on a partly cloudy day (soft, fuzzy shadows) as opposed to direct sunlight (sharp, well defined shadows)
