Can you mix substrates?

I am pretty new to growing shrooms. I did it a few years ago using the brf and Verm with great success. I decided to give my hand a go again, this time using wbs. Well half the jars went to shit. So i was going back to what i know with brf and verm. Unfortunatly I'm at kinda a broke phase at this point in time. So it's difficult for me to get to the hydro store and pick me up a bag of verm. I was wondering if there was a way or if this is a good or bad idea, but I was wondering if I could mix the wbs with the brf since I have that right now. Would that be ok?

Yea, but the vermin isn't neceasary and if you have a food processor you can chop up the wbs. I don't. I soak the wbs in coffee and add the spent coffee grinds. I add a little garden lime and azomite. After soaking for 24 hours. I make sure the water level is just at the surface of the bird seed. Cook the wbs on the stove for twenty or thirty minutes on medium heat. Keep the water level at the bird seed top or a little higher. Dump it into a strainer and let it drain until its not dripping. And doesn't get a paper towel wet if you put some on it. Then just jar it up and PC it. The mycelium holds the cake together even during birth/dunk. I have a few cakes like this now and they work fine. In getting a decent yield from a treasure coast cube clone . Really cheap alternative. Experiment by adding some verm while the bird seed is more moist than I mentioned before I guess

If you're doing a bulk sub you could just inoculate some whole corn kernels. Probably one of the cheapest ways to go and not much to do. .99cents for a bag of it lol There's tons of posts on the tek and I've seen great results with it. I like using bulk trays with a awesome horse and exotic zebra poo compost using rye berries as spawn and put onto a rack inside a small-ish greenhouse with a humidifier on a timer. Size of yields are god like compared to cakes
