Canna butter

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this and need help. I just used some fine harlequin to make butter. I just ground up my bud and tossed it in with the butter. After researching on here I read about decarbing the bud, which I didn't do. Is my butter useless now? Or can I bake it into some cookies and will I get the benefit? Thanks everyone.

I cannot answer this based on my own experience because I only did it once and I decarbed before making my butter.
However, and based on my readings about the subject, theoretically speaking, it is not going to be totally useless. It might just be less potent.
I'd say make a small batch of cookies with one cup of your cannabutter and see how it turns out. BTW, it can take anywhere from 20min to 2hours before you feel the effect of it. So I'd suggest that you sample 1 cookie and wait for sometime before ya take another one!

When i have herms, i put them in a separate room and let them finish as i pluck the sacs, when their done i used to just blend all the plants and throw them in butter/oil, it always got me stoned, decarbing just makes the inactive THC become active, so itll still work just not be as potent,

With butter I never decarb....reason is: well you toss your pre-frozen ground up trim into the cooking vessel, you add your butter and then some water. Now you wait, wait, wait, wait some more, then wait again and again, until you have gone at least 10+ hours (I usually go for the 15-16 hour mark). Then after seperating the butter from the solid matter and any remaining water. you have your sexy lime green butter.

So now its time to whip up a batch of brownies or cookies. butter goes into mix...stir stir stir, then you put in your mum's favorite sponge cake tin and bake away...so correct me if im wrong, but are we not now decarbing while cooking a batch of brownies. Anyway, brownies come out, I sneak a corner and get slapped by the wife, and she comes in with a monster chunk of double choc brownie with an ice cold mug o milk to wash it down, and then I'm fucked for 12 hours

only thing with this is that its not gonna be all that strong if you smear a wedge of that butter on your morning toast, then its not decarbed.

You boil your water for 10+ hours? Or is it a cold extraction? I've never boiled longer than an hour and have gone as short as half an hour, and it has always been fine.

You can decarb by drying your weed, heating your weed, or pressing your weed. So if you are boiling your butter/weed/water, it is decarbed. There are some sweet spots for maximizing the potency of your weed by decarbing at certain temp ranges for certain lengths of time, but I've just boiled for a bit and gotten results that were often stronger than I wanted anyway.

my process:
Freeze trim - makes trichs brittle and fall off easier
Grind trim - better surface area and makes frozen trichs fall off easier
Add to butter with small amount of water in a slow cooker/crock pot - water keeps the butter from browning or potentially burning, top of with 1/4 cup water at a time if needed

my finishing process:
let cool a little and run the canna/butter soup through a cheesecloth or muslin lined colander - removes main/larger particles
Place into large container into the fridge to let the butter set - water will separate to the bottom and finer particles will drop to bottom as well and butter will solidify on top
take container out and remove solid butter from the separated water/debris
put butter over low heat to melt and pour into silicon muffin molds that I already know the exact weight of the chunk of canna butter when it is reset and ready for use.

The method I use is probably method #39 in the "101 ways to make canna butter" manual, I find the water is a bit of an extra step, but I like to use it as a bit of an insurance in case I get too baked and loose track of time and forget about the slow cooker.....yes it has happened

From what ive read the cooking part does not do the decarb process when making the edible. the food doesnt actually reach 350, thus it wont decarb fully. Just like cooking a turkey. the turkey isnt 400* inside after 6+ hrs. its cooked to 165. brownie/cookie insides wont reach the 310 needed.

well I don't know mate I leave all my technical mumbo jumbo into growing the damn plant and trying to get a "spot-on" perfect grow, and when harvesting that near perfectly grown plant I have lots of trim that I can make up a whole shop front of tincture, butters, balms, lotions, oils, cough syrups, fuck-know what else. So the first most important thing to me are the buds themselves and second nature kicks in to not throw anything away so time to make butter. No decarb, long arse time in the slow cooker, and baked inside a batter of some sweet indulging goodness, and no decarb gets me stoned as fuck, longer stoned time than vaping or smoking (not that I burn these days). So maybe there is a different stone/high or length of duration of the stone, but when I'm munted on the couch by doing what I do, then I say my tech is good enough for me.....tbh when I get into our edibles I am wrecked and sometimes even wake up with a week left over stone/high feeling

I legit just cooked it like this.

Got a stick of butter. Threw in my herb. Let it boil for an hour then reduced it to low and it came out like green and smelling hella good.

I think its working though. Helping with all my pain and crohns symptoms. Maybe I'll throw it in a batch of cookies and see what happens next?

What do you think?
