I know this should be in a Medical Marijuana thread but it doesn't seem like many people go there. So I figured Toke N Talk would be the next best place to post this. I wrote it myself based off information from Wikipedia, Drug War Facts and other Medical Marijuana books. Peace!

Cannabis is a unique plant that produces organic chemicals known as cannabinoids. The most common cannabinoids are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), Cannabidiol (CBD) and Cannabinol (CBN). Other common cannabinoids are Cannabigerol (CBG), Cannabichromene (CBC), Cannabicyclol (CBL), Cannabivarin (CBV), Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), Cannabidivarin (CBDV), Cannabichromevarin (CBCV), Cannabigerovarin (CBGV), Cannabigerol Monoethyl Ether (CBGM).
These constituents work on the brains receptors in conjuction with one another. The two known cannabinoid receptors on the human brain are CB1 AND CB2.
The first receptor, CB1 is present in the basal ganglia and in the limbic system including the hippocampus. They are also found in the cerebellum and both male and female reproductive systems. CB1 receptors are not present in the medulla oblongata, the part of the brainstem responsible for respiratory and cardiovascular functions. Thus there is not a risk of repiratory or cardiovascular failure as there is with many other drugs. CB1 receptors appear to be responsible for the euphoric and anticonvulsive effects of cannabis.
The second receptor, CB2 are almost exclusively found in the immune system with the greatest density in the spleen. Whild found only in the peripheral nervous system, a report does indicate that CB2 is expressed by a subpopulation of microglia in the human cerebellum. CB2 receptors appear to be responisble for the anti-inflammatory and possibly other therapeutic effects of cannabis.
The theory that all these known cannabinoids effect the brain like a synergistic shotgon rather than a synthetic silver bullet explains why most users do not suffer from nausea and dizziness when using the drug. Because the numerous cannabinoids effect the brain simultaneously counteracting the side effect of other cannabinoids. The nature ready miracle drug. Most people assume when discussing the legality of cannabis that since it does not cure any deseases that it shouldn't be legal. This is nonsense, most drugs do not cure any desease. Most drugs only treat existing conditions. Cannabis could repalace a lot of these drugs. Most synthetic drugs effect only specific parts of the brain causing imbalanced chemicals and hormones. This is what causes the user to feel nauseous and light headed. And in theory what destroys receptors.
