Budapest - Hungarian former Olympic athlete Peter Farkas has been arrested in Andorra - a year after he fled a courtroom on drugs charges, the state news agency MTI reported on Sunday.
Farkas had been on the run since absconding during a recess in the trial in November last year.
His prison sentence was increased from five to seven years in his absence earlier this month.
Farkas, now 41, won gold in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.
Along with a brother and another accomplice, Farkas was found guilty of running a large marijuana growing operation that was discovered in a residential suburb of the Hungarian capital in 2004.
Media reports have suggested that Farkas was holed up in south- east Asia.
However, MTI reported that the Hungarian police had known his whereabouts for some months before his arrest in the mountainous principality between Spain and France.
