The Malaysian police have recorded a rise in the total amount of cannabis seized in Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia, in the first quarter of this year compared to the corresponding period in 2009.
Kuala Lumpur criminal investigation chief Kang Chez Chiang told a press conference here recently that the scenario had proven that the demand for cannabis in the black market was getting higher this year.
However, he said that the police would continue to take actions against drug dealers to prevent more cannabis from getting into the city of Kuala Lumpur.
Statistics showed that police in Kuala Lumpur had seized a total of 178.4 kilograms of cannabis from January to march, compared to a mere 15.9 kilograms in the first quarter of 2009.
Kang said that a kilogram of cannabis would cost around 5,500 ringgit (1,718 U.S. dollars).According to Kang, a total of six people, including a taxi driver and his wife, were detained last Thursday for suspected drug trafficking following the seizure of 13.8 kilograms of cannabis and 128 gram of another type of drug named syabu.
