Think about this: Airlines have aggressive maintenance checks on their planes based on how many hours they have been in the air. Ocean liners and submarines keep a full-time maintenance crew on hand at all times to attend to mechanical problems as they crop up. Race teams have a pit crew on hand during the race to ensure the vehicle continues to deliver peak performance safely throughout the event.

What makes those of us who drive a car every day think we are immune to mechanical breakdown? And what makes us think that we can drive our vehicles indefinitely without regular maintenance? Our cars need maintenance checks to ensure that they run safely and efficiently. There are an untold number of accidents that occur as a result of mechanical problems that were caused by neglect of basic maintenance issues. And there are many more cases of massive and unnecessary repair costs for the same reason.

i saw this in y@hoo and it really got me to think and look at it topic from a new perspective. mechanical problems will and will happen. bongsmiliebongsmiliebongsmiliebongsmilie

car maintenance is pretty routine.

most important thing you want to do is change the oil and filters when it needs it and keep your tires well pressurized.

you don't need to mess around with a car too much for it to run correctly.

unless it's in what I refer to as the 'money makers' ... it's certain vehicle lines which break down so frequently it's ridiculous.

ford explorer, nissan sentra, mitsubishi lancers, caravans, town and countries, mid 90's 6cyl american engines.... those are among the worst cars that you are GUARANTEED to have something break on them.

worked at a electro-mechanic business for 2 years... you start to see a pattern after a few months, same cars alwasy coming in.... lol....

things go wrong and you put them right, other than keeping an eye on break pads and tyres, what else are you gonna do, take it to a garage once a month to have a service.?

I'm betting a lot of the Sentras and Lancers you get just aren't taken care of.

Most people don't care about mechanics and couldn't be bothered to learn simple routine things like checking oil, changing a tire, etc...it's these people that seem to neglect their vehicles causing major damage and/or safety hazards...i think that if you are allowed to operate a vehicle you should know basic things and how to maintain the vehicle properly even if that means taking it to a shop.

i feel bad for all you automatic drivers out there
automatic transitions are not that easy.
Yeah, autos kinda blow. Honda can't even make a super-reliable automatic tranny. And stick isn't hard at all. If you lack the aptitude to drive a manual transmission you probably aren't competent to be on the road.
