Carbon filter setup

Could somebody please give me some advise on a carbon filter fan setup my bad brought cheap shit extraction fan and shit carbon filter and haven issues with smell and plants are still on 18/6 intend to flip next wk
The fan I have would be ok for intake 4” the wank carbon filter I would use for intake I have a sms 4.5amp fan controller
What should I buy fan & filter wise
My tent is 120x80x180 ?

Id use a 6 inch vortex or can fan with a 6" carbon filter. You could set it up as a scrubber and just let it clean the air in the tent or use it as an exhaust.

Need to know what wattage your running in that space and what your worst case summer temps are in the room where air comes in.
Also its pointless if not removing heat from the room.

Rhino pro, phresh, mountain air are all good filters.

Running on leds max temps have reached 26c high and low 17c
Where’s best place to have filter ? Some say floor some say other wise

If you are using it for exhaust you should place it up high so it gets the warm air.

If using it as a scrubber you can put it anywhere you like but use the airflow to your advantage to mix air in the tent but not blast the plants.

Filter at ceiling, pulling hot stinky air out. I ran Presh filters until my last run and it gassed out way to early. This time I took a chance on an Ipower filter off Amazon . The filter itself is heavy and packed full of carbon . . . so far so good. @Renfro good call on the fans. Consider a duct muffler . . . They work awesome to quiet that fan!

how long do you guys get out of your filters? mine plugged up a few weeks ago. been just dumping un-filtered air out side. but the wife is starting to hate the smell out side

Just ordered I rhino pro carbon filter and they say it will last 2 years under normal use so fingers crossed can get this smell under control 4” was £45 so not that bad still undecided what fan to get !

It will, I have run them for years but change them out every 18 month for peace of mind.
You should of figured out your fan first though, don't want to be running a fan with higher cfm than filter is rated for.
Need to know what your air temp is of incoming air, as in before it gets heated up. Then how many watts in the tent then can work out the cfm of fan needed.

you also need a better fan controller. Scrubbers work best at a lot less than full blast. They need a few microseconds to scrub.

And if you upgrade get a great filter. crappy fans work if you dont mind the sound but nothing beats a quality scrubber when smell is an issue. Cheapos are for legal locations to feel good about at least trying

Most filters come with recommendations for exhaust and scrubbing CFM. So depending on how you use it they tell you how much airflow is ideal. Exhaust is lower CFM because the filter gets one shot to clean the air, scrubbing it's usually higher because the air will be filtered over and over. Just don't exceed the manufacturers recommendations.

Also the best speed controller is a variac.

I use a veriac to control 2 tents (1 fan pulls the air out of both tents). It is fantastic for precise control and there is no fan howl.

Best calculator I've found to give you an idea of what you need it has options for recirculating or exhausting.

It depends on space and how you're using it. If it's sealed room/tent and no exhaust then set the filter on the floor and fan on top, it'll recirculate and keep the smell contained. If you are getting rid of heat from the room with exhaust fans or acs then you need online fan and ducting to pull air thru the scrubber and out the room. This method I usually hang, so everything is online with lights. If you have leds(no hoods) you can put it where ever. Maybe hanging will keep it out of foot traffic and out of your canopy.

.... Both ways would be scrubbing.... I think you mean exhaust vs recirculation

I see that's a trend here. Not trying to be a dick it can just be confusing seeing as they are litterally carbon dioxide scrubbers. I'd hate for someone new to think there is a difference in filters between exhausting and recirculation Maybe a difference in cfm requirements but all the same filters.
