its worth the dough to get store bought, but im older and impatient and tried the nylon hose etc. but in fairness, I didn't try too hard and bought several "ona" gels til the filter got here. I think $70 bucks for a 18" x 6" on amazon.. itll hide a dead animal

Hey all, i've decided i'm going to do both… since its so inexpensive to get those bags of carbon and it really seems promising to me. I'll post the results in the future.

Two things Ive learned from experience not to skimp on. Light, and a Carbon Scrubber. spend the extra $70 and get a 4" fan filter combo. Paid $130 total for mine. Not a whiff can be smelled anywhere.

Yes all carbon filters are simply a basket to hold active carbon

The active carbon is very porous and has a large surface area the smell gets trapped

You could just find an old filter and heat it up to get all the crap in it out and use that

Or yeah it`s not hard to make your own but it can get messy with all that carbon and you can`t get it wet

Also a UVC bulb in your air duct will produce an ozone smell and scrub a lot of smell

Go for a scrubber that you get at the store, then in you want, try to make your own. I have not seen a quality DIY scrubber in person. I know a few people who have tried and failed. I get a new one every year and a half and dont mind spending the cash. It makes me feel more secure. I like CAN scrubbers, that is what is running in my grows.

Please elaborate? I have a couple old 5-6 foot tall 400$ filters that I would love to reuse. How does this work and how the heck could somebody heat up a filter that is as large as mine?

Ok

Use a large hair drier or hot air gun ?

Anything that will blow hot air at into and out of the filter, of course you have to take away all the plastic if there is any on your filter

Another way would be to heat you filter to 200 to 300c and then just connect a metal ducting pipe to it with a fan and blow air through it all the crap on the carbon will just vape off

I do it to the carbon in my carbon filter on my vaporizing set up all the time and I`ve used a heat gun and hair drier to clear out use carbon scrubbers before

I mean your just burning off whatever's got clogged up in the filter but it should smell seriously nice once you get that filter up over 100c if its just been sucking dank buds stank for a few years :p

Makes sense, the problem I have is how the heck do I heat up a 5 foot tall 2 foot wide filter? lol
