cfl vs hps- which is hotter

I am currently growing with 2 42w cfls and 2 24inch 20 fluorescent bulbs which = 124 watts total. currently my temps are around 75 i was thinking about upgrading to a 150w hps and i was wondering if my plants would beable to take the heat.

yeah your plants will be just fine

Lotta variables there. How big is your grow space. I have a 125cfl in a 1x2x3 cabinet that goes to 90+ if I shut the doors but 2 inches open is a sweet 76. In general any HID will be way hotter than a CFL.

if you are planning on upgrading to a better light i suggest you get a digital ballast. they can run an mh light and an hps light all with a bulb switch. also i really do suggest bumping up your wattage if you do i have a 250w mh and to be honest bad investment, it doesnt give enough light like i hoped but i bumped up to a 400w digital ballast and it seems to work wonders. best of luck with whatever you decide to do though.

yeah, but it's not worth your investment like Gibbz said. You will probably end up losing light if you use a 150W setup. This would be due to having to move the HID light higher above the grow because it gets much hotter than cfls. either add one more cfl or invest in a 250w HID.

250w hps and a cool tube with a basic small fan will keep temps down and vastly improve your grow
