I'm switch to better lighting and I wanted to know if there was anything out there like a starter kit ( maybe on Amazon etc ) that anyone could recommend for a beginner. Would need light, ballast, cord , reflector etc included. Probably only for about 4 plants now
Any help is appreciated

Ps - also what should I be changing too for flowering 3 plants after using 300 CFL watts and about 6500k lumens for these in veg

A 400 would be a nice jump, a 600 is nice too if you can cool it in your space

Two recomendations...

1- Buy a 600w switchable ballast so you get a choice of 250w/400w/6000w
You beat me to it.
You don't even have to go to Amazon. You can get some totally decent full kits even from Home Depots website. I ended up ordering just a light and they didn't have the one I ordered in stock.
They upgraded it for the same price with an adjustable ballast. Ballast also has a nice little self cooling system.
But their lights will get the job done and won't kill your wallet.
Just make sure you order a MH bulb along with it if you plan on using MH for veg. Because they usually come with a HPS bulb.

Self cooling ballast, which ones that? Sounds not a great choice if the cooling component fails...

rarely MH and HPS are called HID . for older people over 50 ok . but around here under 50 hid is for cars .
https://www.google.com/#q=hid+car+lights&tbm=shop
because if some body tells me I am going to buy some hid I am thinking a car light .
Actually, it's pretty typical when you're referring to the class, i.e. HPS, MH, LEC?, MV?, etc. So, while Halogen and other lights on cars are considered "HID," the class of lights that involve big, hot lightbulbs are referred to as HID.

A dimmable 600 would cover you to expand a bit, I have a cheap Amazon one that's 4 years old and run at max + setting all the time, no issues at all. The only problem I have is buying 600 watt bulbs at wholesaler, seems only pot growers buy them lol.

You should go LED. Plug and play, no dedicated circuit, and your electric bill stays low.
Actually a 400 and even a 600 will not max out a 15 amp and you can still add fans, pumps, etc. Have you grown a plant under a "HID" lol, and compared results with your burple light? Not saying there is a difference, I have not tried one, just hear everyone who has say there is no comparison. COB has tweaked my interest though.

COB ? and yes I think this thread has lost the point with all the HID or HID shit lol. I know that the HPS and MH make for bigger nicer buds. So I am really interested in learning how that works. Cause Ill be honest I dont really understand ballasts and setup etc etc etc .... I wish there was a class you could take lol

I was always led to believe the circuit has to be dedicated. Learn something new every day.

Not much to know really if you buy a kit, just where to plug it in lol. Now if you want to compare different types then yup lots to read, double ended, dual spectrum, etc. Yup lots to read lol. COB is circuit on board led which is supposed to be the most effiecent lighting available for growing ATM.
