Chilled Logic Pucks V3 or Cobs

I have to down size consideralbly. What would be the coolest running and most efficient system for my purposes. I plan on building a 2.3'x4.5'x6' grow box. Using the scrog method. I have been reading a lot and see many options, but I have no experiance with these new lights. I have been vegging T5 and flowering hps. I will need even coverage with a low fixture that does not run hot .I was considering 3 or 4 pcs Chilled Logic V3 Pucks or 6 to 8 pcs Luminus CXM22 Gen3 3000K 90 CRI cobs at low power. Which of these 2 methods would run the coolest and give me the desired results. What am I missing? Is there an option that I have not considered that would work better.
Thanks in advance.

You definitely have to spend a lot more on LED to get the same production. That said, it can be done. Personally unless you are battling high temperatures and can't do anything else then LED may be a solution but it will cost on the order of 900 - 1000 bucks to replace a 1kW HPS with a LED. You will want a LED thats pulling about 650 - 750 watts at the wall to replace a 1kW HPS.

The spread is much better because it's on a substrate. I hear a watt is a watt when it comes to heat, but I just don't feel it. People also forget about radiant heat. even with 10 foot ceilings that shit was still an issue. The spectrum is much Better as well. I agree that replacing hps is not worth it if you are on a budget, but I have money and love new tech ....so fuck it

I learned that I had to be very clear that you can grow great weed and yield, but at what cost. There is no arguing the fact that a quality LED light cost more than HPS or CMH.

4 pcs Chilled Logic V3 Pucks are $220 delivered. 4 heat sinks are $50. Frame is $25. The drivers are $50 each, thats $100. I would use 2 drivers so I could power 2 pucks for seedlings, cuttings, and part of veg. Low power not much heat. Then I could run all 4 pucks to finish veg and flower. The 12/12 could run in the cool of the night. I could also dim the light and use more power during end of flower. The plants are able to get much closer to these lights and my top space is limited. The heat and the light is also spread out more even.Total = $395.
I have a 400 watt hps with veg and flower bulbs with a enclosed reflector. I also have a 600 watt light with both bulbs and reflector. All Hydro Farm, Radiant and Eye Hortilux. Top of the line. I also have a Quantum T5 Bad Boy 8 Bulb set up with all bulbs. Veg and Bloom.
The HPS set ups need to much headroom and are not dimmable. The T5 did not flower to my expectations. I agree hps would be better but I do not have the room.
Is the T5 set up I have just as good as the Leds. I know I can keep them within inches of my plants with no heat. They veg awesome but not happy with the finish. I feel I could expect more from the pucks.

I agree with you 100% on the heat issue and the spectrum. I also feel led has come a long way. For HPS to cover my 2x4 area it would need to be about 30" high and seeds and cuttings need more room.

$395 to my door for the kit I was looking at. I agree, for a large grow it would definately be better to use multiple HPS set ups. Tried and true. I was running a dual bulb reflector with a 400 watt veg bulb and a 600 watt flower bulb. Incredible no doubt. High Heat, High Power, Excellent production. Just can`t go that route anymore.

Have you tried the new Cobs or the Chilled Pucks. Lot of people here have tried both. If I had the room I would use what I already own.
Things have changed for my grow space and I`m just trying to make the best out of what I have room for. The only melt downs I have seen is the people against Leds. We all know HPS works. I think most people use leds out of necessity.

I pulled 1.28 g/w of GTH#1 with 1000w DE HPS. Same strain and both scrogs. This German guy pulled 1.41 g/w using a 960w cob array. I'm not saying toss the HPS, but LED have advanced a long way to compete with HPS DE , if not beat them.

Family with children are moving in. They will be taking my space. Because of the children it will have to be a cabinet grow from there.
you can get almost 3 grams a watt for a good led now. less heat for led, because led drivers are more efficient , so there is more watts changing to photons vs watts straight to heat. if you want fine tune your grow , led wins. if you want to grow any more then one cycle and a couple plants, then led pays for itself fast. hps needs to be replaced every year. they lose intensity every time you turn it on and off. led lights last over 50,000 hours no problem. yes hps works, it always has. but you get what you pay for.a 1000 watt gavita is almost 1000 dollars . you can build a 700 watt led for less or the same. your efficiency will increase, and you electric bill will pay for the light by itself. the whole world is changing to led. not just growers. hps will be fazed out soon. dont let cheap led lights turn you off. you really need to read the fine print with them. like i said you get what you pay for. if you go led you are set for the future. there easy to expand and customize. good luck with your adventure.
