Chinese 288x3W LED grow lamp came with broken LEDs

What's up to this Chinese 288x3W LED panel?
I was not going to buy any LED lamps from outside my boundary.
But that guy selling the lamp at Ali-express said it was 15 wavelengths includes UV 380-400nm, 400-410nm,IR 730-740nm, 740-760nm, Warm white 2700-3000K, 4500K, Neutral White 5000-6000K, Cool White 8000-14000K and 16000-18000K, Blue 430-440nm,460-470nm,Red 630-640nm, 640-650nm,660-670nm, Orange 610-615nm, 288pcs 3W LEDs, actual draw 550W.
I was definitely attempted and then pulled the trigger on 23th, May, it cost me 458$ with extra 138$ shipping to Canada.
It came last week but it was not until last night then I unpacked the box and turned it on.
It seemed there were some LEDs not on, I took my sun glass to have a close look at it, there were really 8 LEDs dark. Just shot an email to that guy sold the lamp to me. As my 3 mother plants are now ready to clone, cannot wait any more.....

they might just be the so called uv, see what he says
Hi, Jubiare, I am definitely 100 per cent sure they are not UV LEDs, there are 6 units UV LEDs at the row 6th and 8th. I am still keeping the LED arrangement picture he sent me while we were discussing about the spectrum ratio.
I checked the picture again, it seems they broken LEDs are those 6 units IR LEDs and 2 units orange 610nm LEDs.
Still waiting for his reply.....

The 380-420nm area will appear to be a dim purple color, and anything from 700-750nm will appear super dim red, and it cannot be seen when the other bright LEDs are on.

500-600nm is what's brightest to the human eye, and as you exceed beyond those colors towards 400nm and 700nm, the light gets dimmer as far as our vision is concerned.

I paid 3 times the price for that much power... I had bad luck with cheap lights and not much you can do when you got it from China. If my light was to fail, I have a 5 years warranty and the company is in Canada, no hassles . Good luck

I am regretting, ugh..but that guy did say they offer Three-Year warranty. I don't think he will reply me within a few days, probably he will not reply me.

Now, He did reply my email and confirmed those LEDs are 6 IR and 2 orange, but what he asked me to do is that I should run the lamp until tomorrow morning to see what will happen, he also said they had never got such problem before, for this lamp is built with 24 units LEDs per series,(total 12 series, 12x24=288 units) if one burnt, the whole certain series will not work.
Who knows?

Sounds like one of a couple things, 1) they misplaced some of the LEDs, and in the spot where the oranges are supposed to be, there is another color that is not in the visible spectrum, or 2) maybe they are actually oranges, but they connected them backwards, i.e. + connected to the - and visa versa, what would happen there depending on the kind of LEDs they use, the LEDs will not illuminate, but still completes the circuit so the other LEDs stay lit. Either way, they did something wrong.

Which factory did you buy it from? There's a few places in China that sells the 288x3, they're all pretty much the same parts-wise, the difference comes in the quality of the workmanship and quality control inspections per each factory.

Hi, Eraserhead. I did turn the lamp on and check it with the configuration. He replied me and confirmed that those two 610nm orange LEDs are really broken, please have a look at the picture he cycled those two LEDs, it is easily to distinguish the difference between each LEDs. Just sent another email and asked him what he can deal with it.

I have been unlucky while selecting LED lamps, i got two 45W LED panel lamps and one 45x3W LED lamps from ebay some months ago I run them in my veg room, one of those 45W panels is also broken now, I'd prefer to pick up a LED lamp from a local store if I still believe in LEDs. I definitely like their less-heat merit.

More than likely they'll offer to send 2 replacement orange LEDs, which means you'll have to do some soldering. Of course you can tell them you are unable to if you do not know how, in that case it might be a fun time on your part to get them to take the unit back to fix themselves, in my experience dealing with some Chinese LED factories, a lot of them are really good with warranty issues, but will avoid at all costs having the entire lamp sent back to them, they rather send you free replacement parts.

If you can solder, and have trouble getting replacement parts from the seller, you can go to Mouser or Digikey and find a suitable replacement LED, by the looks of the pic, those are typical Taiwanese 3w LEDs, they range in grade from terrible, to actually very nice. They have basic solder points which are very easy to get replacements for.

These here aren't too bad, and the solder points are the same as the ones in your model http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Avago-Technologies/ASMT-AH30-ARS00/?qs=wmFqszA%2be7MbrUBhT/sH%2bsaFZ2Aa8cCK4egu3AP2jrY=

Very appreciated to your useful link,Eraserhead.
If they don't cover the warranty, i may have to buy some Orange LEDs from there. Now I am running it and will keep it running until tonight to see what this crap will do.

you got 90% of the light running, I would try to get some money back, and just run the light as is! it's not like a few diodes will make a difference on your harvest, buy a better quality light next time.

Ya, i'm definitely going to get some money back if they don't fulfill their warranty. As my mother plants are really ready for cloning and i really need LEDs but with lack of bucks....That's the main reason why I was going to buy a cheaper lamp, i did expect it would run at least one journal.

There is no doubt that they have really denied their warranty. He offered me two options, but there is one i should accept:
1, if i return the lamp to China, i will have to pay 150 dollars at shipping and probably the same cost at re-sending, BECAUSE I am NOT a distributor as he said.
2, if i can do some DIY and solder their "new" LEDs to replace these broken ones, i "only" have to pay 20 dollars for shipping and then they will send me some "HIGH QUALITY" LEDs within a few days....
Things could be worse is as soon as i unscrew their lamp, they will never cover any warranty in the future even though they have denied that.
He never mentions anything about return some money....
