I have never done clones before, but I imagine you can use other mediums as long as it can hold in solution and keep the cutting up. I am not a big fan of rockwool at this point, anyways. I initially got some to start my first grow, and it took me all of about 1 hour to go back and get some rapid rooters. Just dont get them too wet. Moist. Rapid rooters + cloning solution + higher humidity should work. Does your friend have a clone box or anything? Hopefully some of the more experienced growers here can answer your question better than I can.

hell ya you can use soil. trim the leaves down a bit (cutting them in half almost) this will encourage growth to develop in the roots and not the leaves. make sure that you are spraying the leaves. because their are no roots that is how it will feed. also at the point you cut the trimming off take a razor blade or sharp knife and cut little slits in stock. this will also promote root growth. good luck.

I ph to 6 for my rockwool and soak it in a grozyme mix first. Once rooted in the rockwool into a promix or net pot.

Yup. I use to mix 1/2 and 1/2 vermiculite and perilite and put it in clear plastic 16oz drinking cups with a few tiny holes in the bottom. I'sd soak it , stick my cutting right in the cup and put it in an old aquarium with a lid to keep the humidity in. I also sprayed the leaves once a day with water. After about 2 weeks I'd see the roots through the plastic (thus the reason for clear plastic cups). Prior to transplanting I'd soak the entire cup with water so I could turn the cup over and the mass would come out in one piece. Then I'd take a bulb planter (which digs the perfect hole) and make a space in my growing pots for the clone/vermiculite/perilite.

I just cloned to clones, I wrapped a small cup with black tape completely, even on top and only left a slit for the stem of the clone, Next i preped clone(45 degree cut, and barely scraped about an inch of one side of bottom of them. Next dipped in root powder, stuck in black cup with water, Left on windows sill(not direct sunlight), forgot about it for 15 days, come back and bam they both have rooted. then its easier to put in soil, so that you have some roots to catch water. My first time at cloning, and so far 100%. But it was only two. lol

dude i use the fake flower shit u get at the craft store holds water like a spunge put a little rooting hormone on the end of ur cutings stick em in a tray of water so they dont dry up and in put em under a florecent light and in three weeks u got more plants man.
