Cloning gel, powder, what works best? Best price?

I'm not sure what to try for doing some clones, I see a lot of people swear by Clonex gel, others like to do full dips using rooting powder, or a combination of things. I'm on a very limited budget so whatever I get needs to work...basically...lol. Recommendations? Thanks! =)
 
Right on, I think I will go with the gel. I'm also gonna throw together a simple little bubbleponic bucket for them to root around in lol, thanks for the input! =)
 
I got me some clonex gel last night first time cloning..I got the clonex packet that was $6.50 I suggest you get that if you are only gonna take 10-20 clones because I took 4 and still have a whole ph tester vial left after flushing a cap full
 
Ive used both the powders and gels and have found over the years that the best way to take clones is by buying: RooTech Cloning Gel, 1x1 Rockwool cubes & Olivia's Cloning Solution. Ive been using these three items and ive had 100% cloning success w/ these products

Cool I did end up getting Rootech gel and will be putting them in a DIY bubbleponics to get some roots before I throw them in some dirt. =)

Dip N grow works just fine for me. It's cheap, easy, not messy, and does what it's supposed to. Not sure why people need anything more fancy than that.

I gotta agree with this. When I first started I used DipnGrow, and then other people talked me into trying different gels, Clonex, Olivia's, etc. You know what I found? DipnGrow works just as good, lasts forever, and is very economical. What is more important than your rooting hormone are your conditions such as keeping the root zone a certain temp, which is why I use a heating mat.

Yep. As far as I'm concerned anything more is just a waste of money. It's real easy to get lured into using fancy expensive products, but I see no benefit to using anything expensive.

It makes your cuttings grow roots. So does gel. Why spend 2x-4x more money for something that does the exact same thing? Gels work, but the fact that you can cut a thousand clones out of a $10 bottle while only a couple hundred out of a $20-40 bottle of gel seems to make it better imo. Also gel seems to get contaminated and/or go bad quicker.

You just use plain (ph'd) water Pilgram? I've heard that works just as good, I only spent like $5 and it's like a 4 oz. Carmex lip balm canister full of the stuff, should last quite a while but I'd like to try plain water too and compare! =)
 
ive tried it all and for me what works is prep the cut , take the cut,slice angle under water then straight into jiffy pellets granted i only get 6 out of 10 roots this works for me
 
If you're on a very limited budget, don't use anything on your clones. All of my water only clones have done just fine. I also tested peanut butter in a soil grow and got roots prior to discarding the clone.
 
All of these rooting products are the same thing, only difference is the carrier of the active ingredient. If you look at the contents of these products you will see the active ingredient is IBA, Indole Buteric acid, or NAA or both. Any of these products work equally well, choose the cheapest if you are on a budget. The powdered talc carriers are usually the cheapest. Commercial greenhouses clone millions of cuttings a year and use mostly DipnGrow for the ease of use.

MJ cloning, as others have said, needs no hormones to root and should root easily by any of a number of cloning techniques. The most important thing about rooting clones is temperature control and pay close attention to the water requirements of your choice of cloning methods.
