cloning in perlite, mini-hempy style

Hi everybody

I want to do some cloning and use perlite as medium as rockwool is not an option for me. I did some reading and this is what I have till now:
- get a 12oz solo cup
- make a hole, 0.5” from the bottom
- soak perlite in water, fill up 3/4 of the cup with perlite
- pour water in the cup till overflows trough the hole
- prepare a cutting and insert it in perlite
- keep it under a humidity dome for 2-3 weeks, 75-80F & higher then 80% RH
- water daily to get a bit of overflow / mist from time to time

I still have some questions though:
- How deep the stem should go? It needs to be in water or above water, in wet perlite only?
- How do I move it to soil when I have roots?

I’d like to here from people who actually used this technique. Something about success rate, how is it compared with rockwool, anything missing from my list, maybe a detailed guide?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

i do the same thing for my clones except i don't go straight into the hempy cup. i put it in a rapid rooter in an empty cup with a very small amount of water in the bottom. just keep the rooter moist and spray the foliage a few times a day in a dome and with my iced grapefruit, i had roots coming out of the rooter in under a week. then put the rooter into the hempy cup so the perlite just barely covers the top of it. i've tried a few cloning methods and this is the easiest and most successful method for me. moving it to soil seems like it would have a high chance of damaging the new roots. why not just transplant into a larger hempy? you can just make a cut down the side of the cup and cut off the bottom and put it in the new pot and slide the cup right out. i don't see myself using any other method just because it is so simple and you are in 100% control of your plant's life. i would imagine the stem should be well above the water line in the bottom of the cup, but that makes me think the roots are going to take forever to pop out...

i grow hempy, and i definately have to tell you that making a hole only half an inch from the bottom is a BAD idea, once i started some seeds in mini hempys (16oz solos) and only made the hole an inch from the bottom, and, i'd say less than 3 weeks into veg, i was TILTING my cups back cause the girls were sucking it up so quick! definatly go at least an inch and a half from the bottom...

when i do mine, i germ from seed, then stick my seeds in rockwool, then into my mini hempys...it just seems to me that if i didn't put them in rockwool, the seed would just flush down into the perlite and disappear, also, the rockwool will suck some of that water and hold onto it for the new sprouts, 100% perlite as a medium isn't gonna hold much of that up there long enough for the roots to take up much
