cold/low temp/chilled waterings to bring the purps out in late flowering?

I read somewhere that ice water or really cold water will cause a visible increase in the purple coloring of a plant with appropriate genetics (traditionally purple strain) in late flowering phase... is this poppycock and balderdash or should I engage without concern surrounding a potentially fatal mistake of true in fact or bogus infro yo?

Using cold water can temporarily stop growth, or if cold enough even kill the plant from shock, but cold weather will sometimes make the stems turn purplish.
I would not try the cold water unless you are doing it for an experiment.

cold air seems to do the trick in bringin out the color...plants nearest my intake are always more colorful than the farthest ones
