college student looking to grow 2-3 plants.

Hello all,

Well I just moved into my apartment at college and I got the big bedroom. My closet is HUGE so I decided to make something good of it and grow a few plants in their. Here are a few questions that I have. Since I only want to grow only a few plants, would a little heat lamp like the ones that you put over a fish take to keep the tank hot for a reptile. Would that work? The light is round and prob 8-9" from one side to the other. See I don't want to spend much money because I don't have much I am on like a $30 budget at most. I have the lamp and the pots now all I need is to find myself some seeds and get some soil. Let me know what you think.

well zzeuss I am a college student too and if you can only spend $30 that would cover you for good nutrients but not much else. The reptile light is a good SUPPLEMENTARY light to increase your trichomes and make your bud more crystally, but not as a main light. My best advice to you would be consider what you would normally pay for bud and then reconsider your budget.

Keeping that in mind I would grow 1 plant within 1-2 square feet to keep your cost at a minimal. Load up on multispectrum CFLs so that you have 5,000-10000 total lumens in that 1-2 square feet and maybe throw the reptile light in sideways if you can fit it.

Lst the plant, supercrop, prune the mofo and you should be fine. Figure out what you're going to do for nutrients.

Yea my roomie is going to do it with me so we will be able to spit cost. Anyway I can prob just ask some of my buddies for some seeds, but I really want to get some good seeds from an online supplier. Any suggestions that people can make on what site I should order some seeds from and you know that work. Do most ship to the us and if they do is it risky to get seeds sent to the US?

Go with mandalaseeds.com and get hashberry for $20 US roughly and maybe some shipping. As far as seeds go that is CHEAP and hashberry was one of hightimes top 10 strains last year

Another good choice would be nirvana.. I believe nirvana-shop.com. Their prices are very reasonable and they offer good quality seeds. I have dealt with both and haven't had any issues getting them sent to the states.

If you and your roommate would be able to scrape up say $100-150 each and don't mind a little diy work, then you might have a nice little operation with 1-4 plants with close to optimal surroundings.

For 30 bucks....Get you some cfls, some good soil, and water, and confine your space as much as possible to the plants. Thats all you need, you dont need nutes. For your first grow, I would suggest growing some bag seed, complete that successfully then buy some good seeds. You are looking at 30 bucks for good seeds as it is.

When i first started growing (just under a year ago) i also didnt want to spend money. I thought id let it grow on the windowsill. But trust me very soon youll see that you need enough lights and you need this and that. Not only will you need it, but youll want it if your anything like me. Growing has pretty much become my biggest hobby and ill spend all day trying to fix up my setup to getting the temp right and the plants close to the light. I only have a small grow box but ive spent about 200$ on it now (compared to many other setups thats nothing, but this is still just a small CFL grow), thats inculding seeds.
If you only have 30ish bucks then youll soon see that it wont work. However your first grow will let you learn sooo many things you had no idea about and theres a good chance youll mess it up (hell i did). But its ok because youll know exactly what to do next time from the start.
So, my suggestion, get as many CFLs as you can, thats your first goal and you should keep adding throughout the grow whenever you can, because more wattage = more buds = you get back all the money you invested in grams. So for every dollar you put in, you should get at least that back again after first grow.
When you get dirt, make sure you stay away from miracle grow time released nutrient soil becaause that seems to be the worst thing to get according to others on the site. Good luck!

Not tryna crash the party..but is your apartment on campus? do they do any kinda inspections or anything? just keep that in mind.you're gonna need something real stealthy. getting busted with that shit on campus is definently not worth it.

No I don't live on campus.. I have my own apartment with 2 other kids.

i just got 2-100w daylight cfls(high in blue rays) for about 6 each, 12bucks. 200w but only 46w of power i have to pay for. These are good for the seed stage and veg stage. dont have to worry about burning the plants.
i got a timer about 4 bucks. 18 h on 6 off
some soil about 3-4 bucks
a few pots 2 bucks
go to salva amy stors cheap cheap. 2ed hand stores are great to find deals.
