Confusion about lights

I'm currently in the process of constructing a DIY ebb and flow hydroponics system, and I've gotten to the point of buying a lighting system. Problem is, even after reading several guides completely through, I still feel unsure as to what I need for a lighting system. Everything I've read seems to give very detailed information about what kind of bulb you want, but little else. So I have the impression I want to get a single 250 watt HPS bulb, but what else do I need and where can I get them?

I get the impression that I need a ballast box, possibly some special power cords or something, a light fixture, a reflector, I really don't know. I hate to ask such a basic question when there's so much writing on the subject on the Internet, but for some reason I can't find anything that just says everything you need and gets on with it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

well yeah. u will need a ballast (power cable should be supplied) and a reflector.

however some places will over u a bulk package where u can buy the right ballast and right size reflector for the job.

i seen a 400watt hps with ballast, bulb,cables,reflector etc for about £80.

really depends where u get it from

why do you want to use a 250w? imo 400w will give you the best results in any small grow.
