Conversion Bulb Question

We currently have a 400W HPS ballast & Hortilux bulb. It works great for veg & flowering, but we have been debating on getting an mh setup. To save some money, we have been looking into a conversion mh bulb that will run on our ballast.

Has anyone used one before? Is it just as efficient as running a straight mh ballast + bulb set up? And finally, does name brand mean much? I have seen normal 400w mh bulbs for $30 and others for as much as $90. Is there a reason these are extra or is it just marketing?

Any help here will be appreciated. Thanks guys :blsmoke:

Just a noob with a total of 4 weeks growing experience here. I've got a HiLux Gro 600w Conversion MH bulb in my tent. I've read that the blue spectrum of the MH is better than HPS for vegging, and it still kicks out 47,000 lumens. The bulb was pretty pricey at $115.00, but being it is my first grow, I wanted to have every advantage I could afford.

I'm VERY happy with the results. Check out my grow log to see the results.

Good luck!

looking at the lumens the different brands put out they seem to be about the same so to save money I stick with the cheaper bulbs and I've had good results. the mh conversion bulbs I use for flowering and while I don't have a comparison because that's all I've used, they work fine. if you're looking for reassurance.

I just put up my 400w setup with a Sunmaster Neutral Deluxe MH conversion bulb. I went from a bunch of CFL's and 2 foot tubes to this. I can already see a noticiable positive difference in my plants from just under 24 hours of use.

Again - isn't a comparison to a regular MH... but I thought I'd toss it out there since I'm happy as hell so far!
