Cost to run 400 HPS vs. 250 HPS?

How much more on average does a 400 watt lamp cost to run vs. a 250? I know it depends on electricity rates, and there is a way to plug in numbers to find out exactly. But can anyone ballpark it for me?

Yes I did. Thats why I said that I know there are ways to figure it out. I read through most of that and came away even more confused. I just want to know "a 400 watt HPS will cost X amount more to run than a 250 HPS." Someone told me today that it is few cents more, but he was trying to sell me a light, hehe.
Anyway, I guess I am just not smart enough to figure it out from that thread...

About as much as adding a new radio in your house. Dude there is a min differance. I went from 400w to 600w to 1000w. Didnt even notice the bill go up. Ya it went up a lil but nothing to worry about.

If a 1000w light costs me $40/month, then a 250w would be $10/month and a 400w would be $16/month.

If any of those costs break the bank, I cant WAIT to see what you plan to do for nutrients and a sanitary grow environment! :)

Great point kitty. Just when you think you are done then you have to drop a couple hundred on nutes.

Now that's just absurdly rediculous! I have not, to this day, spent more than $18 TOTAL on nutrients! That's for my first grow, my second grow, and now my current grow, and my nutes are going to last me for probably the next 10 or maybe even 15 grows after this...

I REALLY don't understand why people spend 'hundreds' of dollars on nutrients. All they do is say 'this is better because we said so' and add a sweet $50 onto the price tag.

For veg= http://www.amazon.com/Miracle-Gro-100042-pound-Tomato-Plant/dp/B000P7345G/ref=pd_rhf_shvl_1

For flower= http://www.amazon.com/Scotts-Co-100192-Bloom-Booster/dp/B000VBK6H0/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1277411584&sr=8-5

And Grandma's unsulphered molasses for the last 4 weeks of flower.

My grows are in my sig and those are the ONLY nutes I have EVER used thus far in my growing career. I'm not saying they're the best by any means. But they work REALLY well for me! No reason to be spending hundreads on something that cost a fraction of the price, and does the same thing. IMHO.

Sorry to get off topic OP. I use CFL's so wouldn't know about your HPS Q's... My bad

not sure bout your power company but AEP has an appliance calc on there site just tell it the wattage and hrs per day you gonna run it and it'll tell ya monthly cost based on what you pay per kwh

Close. A 1000w lamp uses 1000w for the bulb, and 100w for the ballast. That'd be 1100w @ $0.10 x 12 hours x 30.5 days. Should be close to $40.

I buy my nutes by the gallons. 45 bucks for the vegg, 45 for flower, 50 for the liquid karma, 45 for cal-mag, plus a bunch of calibration shit that I only need to have every once and a while but ya still need it. I dont buy any sweet additives anymore or snake oils just a balanced organic diet for my plants.

Those sweet additives do work -- If they didnt hydro stores wouldnt sell them and customers wouldnt buy them for as much as they do. I think what a lot of people forget is that nutrients is just what makes a plant healthy. They dont grow buds. A good environment and lighting grows buds, nutrients just keep plants in great physical shape so they can do as much as possible. Too many people focus on nutrients for closet grows, you can probably use straight urine in a closet grow and come out just fine. :)
