I was fishing around and found a few light bulbs, there Philips Genie. 11watt energy, producing 60 watt Light, (is that right?) at 230v-240v producing 600 lumen. would three rigged up like in the GrowFAQ be suitable for veg??

An 11 watt CFL will have about the same effect as a nightlight.
I think they may work..
they could burn the plants..
im not sure..
That's really funny. Flourescents are the least burn-risk light sources available.

cfl/hps would be better?
Yes. However, high wattage cfls are available. 42 watt CFLs are a popular choice.

Here's some photots of the lights, boxes etc, any of this help? i am looking in to running 1 125w cfl blue spectrum for veg and a red spectrum 125w for flowering, but it's getting them paid for, my grow box is going to be about, 400mm deep, 600mm wide and 1000mm high. would the two bulbs i am getting be able to easily light the growbox?

but untill i can afford them i am going to try these lights?

1000 mm? what a dumb way to measure something.... and again.. NO that light is wayyy to weak. I wouldnt even put a seedling under something that weak... save your seeds untill you get better lights or you will be sorry

cant really help you there,, i dont know what you have across the pond.... 45 watt cfls are abundant over here and can be bought for less than 10 dollars.. and they are great for beginners. they put out about 3000 lumens, which is about the equivalent to a 150 watt incandescent

We have ASDA over here that's a partner or something to do with walmart. what bulbs are avaliable from there that are suitable, like a brand etc, that i could pick up for my veg stage, and is the process for wiring them together the same as our lights fittings are the push and twist type. we've also got a store called wilkinsons that are pretty shit hot for odd's and ends.

Could i buy the regular ceiling fittings then wire them together. so they can be wired from a plug,

If you can tell me what to look for on the bulb boxes that may help?

Go to wal-mart and go to there lighting section. look up a CFL flouro 42 watt is the best i found it puts 3000 lumens out, on a hot sunny day its 10000 lumens per square foot ( some people say its per plant, just to be safe) so i would say get 6 of them, they are 8 buck from where im at (prices could very from where your from) 6x3000= 18000 well over what you need. and if you for sure have a way to get money, go ahead and buy one or two of those lights and germinate, you can keep seedlings under less light casue they dont use so much. thats the best you can do on a small budget. wanna go all out? go to ebay and get an HPS with a ballast and everything it runs at about the same energy as all those CFL's you will use and in the end will pay for itself.

I am from the UK and all i can seem to find is 18w bulbs but i am not sure what i am looking for does anyone know where in UK can buy these bulbs??

I want to buy a proper grow light i can get one from my local shop for £25 without a reflector, i have definatly decided to go with CFL's as my house is electric so any huge leaps on the meter will be easy for big bro to spot!

But would not mind saving £££'s on the seedling stage.

I know nothing about the electrical infrastructure of the U.K. so I hesitate to speculate on what to consider.

Right now, my mother box is full of 42-45 watt CFLs. I am aware of a 105 watt CFL and intend to try it soon. Compact Fluorescent - 105 Watt - Full Spectrum - 6500K - Major Lamp #SHO-105W-WW Light Bulb

You need to go to a hydro shop.
Once you go to the hydro shop and have a look around all should become clear. They will give you the advice of what you need.

It's sorted!

i ve been to my local hydro shop and they've got a 125w CFL that will be perfect for my grow box it's about £45 for reflector and bulb (blue spectrum) that's all i'll need for veg stage, then save some money and in time buy the red spectrum bulb for flowering. and just change the bulb when a change the cycle. TA-DA.

I only really asked if a could use those bulbs as i would of started some seedlings from them but i am going to hold off and just buy the proper gear, soil and lighting is where i shouldn't cut back on. i am building my grow box from stuff i can get from work, PLY etc, so total costs so far =£0 (the system):hump:

Could i just ask how many plants you are going to grow.

I was only going to do 1 but if i could try 2 i would rather do that.
