Cover stem to fix stretching?

I dropped a new seed in 7 days ago and it is now 4 days from sprout. It stretched because I didn't have it close enough to the light.
I read a tutorial on here about removing the plant and burying it deeper. My question is, if I have room in the pot, can I just add soil to cover the stretched stem?
I don't have a picture of it now.
