Cree Bulbs in Veg - how far from plants?

I just converted my veg cab over to 9w Cree Bulbs to keep the the temp down vs CFL. I broke off the glass bulbs on them and have under a hood.

How far from canopy should they be? Not sure if I want them super close like with the cfl.

I put them as close as touchin....but seriously..... [Also Depends on how many you have per the sq. footage] but 6-8" is fine for young seedlings and anything up to an inch is probably fine there after.

Sideways mount is the best way to mount too, not diagonal or top mount, if someone hasn't screamed at you already

They stay cool especially the globes. Some bleaching in flower[Week3-4] @ 2" or less, so I finished @ 4". But I am leaning towards strain dependent on this.

Just flipped a new girl into my 1st cab, kept her about 12-13" away on purpose for the last few days to see her response @ 13.5/9.5 off. Does well at this distance too.....

I treat them as CFLs in regards to distance when side lighting. Overhead, in a 4 way adapter I usually go about 6 inches to keep them reaching a little and just keep adjusting height as they grow. I've used em for two grows now, they work well.

Thanks for the replies. My cab is 45" x 26". Plants are in full veg. The hood holds 14 bulbs, pointing down in a V so I get a decent amount of side light. Right now, 7 of them are LED, 5 are CFL (need some heat in there) and two are not being used. Plants are 1-3" from the lights so I think I am good.
