Cree LED Grow Lght Project(s)

Right, a friend actually brought this up who is so seriously into electronics its untrue. Scarilly. He wanted me to test out his idea for LED grow light but the more i looked into it the more this seems to be a seriously good idea!

Looking at Cree's XLAMP XP-E LEDS we have a couple of ideas for 2 prototypes. Veg and Flower which should cover 4ftx4ft so easil;y enough for 1.2mx1.2m/sq areas.

Anyways, if ANYONE has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. The idea(for prototype purposes) is 25 of these LED's with magnets on the bottom so different configerations are easily made at any time and just use a off the shelf reflector to begin with.

For Flower it seems 50/50 with blue and Red only so a simple design in a 5x5 square.

B R B R B
R B R B R
B R B R B 13xblue
R B R B R 12xred
B R B R B

Just wondering if anyone as info on other spectrums for Veg.

Little more complex is the flower we have come up with. We've come up with a 7-1-0.5 ratio with red/blue/orange respectivly using the Red & Orange type of LED. Goes a little something like this:

B R 0 R B
R R R R R 4xOrange/Red
0 R B R 0 5xblue
R R R R R 16xred
B R 0 R B

Same design as veg light but with different LEDS tbh. The idea is the 5 blue LEDs are in the optimal spacing. The 4 Red's with orange in also in good area to have an even cover as orange i seem to have found(correct me if im wrong) is only very slghtly needed.

The building of this will be left to my friend at first with my eyes very interestingly watching. I will be funding this as well so i want to be sure that LED's are a good option for 400W/600W HPS replacement.

I've heard putting a florecent light up as well helkps with the trace elements used for the spectrum of light thats missing too? Is this true or is everything fine.

As i say, All drawing board for now but the advantages are massive. And the cost to build isnt expensive at all. All seems to good be true but from what i see, theres alot of evidence backing this. Only thing ive seen like this is Procyon 100W which as 56 XR-E which are bigger and less efficent than the XP-E's.

ANY help or comments, please dont hesitate to say. This will be a on going project for me and i have 2x 600W and 1x400W HPS that seriously suck the electric from the power grid and the savings just after a few months could be huge. Hope to add lots of features to it in time as digitally anything is possible(well almost i think :))
