curious about new growth?

growing in soil. Plant is like 2 feet tall. 5th week of veg. Been on 18/6. The growth I am curious about is growing like a half an inch underneath the 9th node on the main stalk. about a 1mm long and looks like the stem of a leaf. but no leaf. could it be the start of a male pre flower? just thought preflowers were at the nodes and this is way below the node. Just curious, any thoughts?

That does sound odd. You should post a picture. If it is a preflower, it sounds more like a female. The early male preflower is more like two apposing hooks. Sometimes small and hard to see.

I have a few plants that did that and they turned out great.

Usually you will see the first pre-flowers near the top of the plant.

I can't get a good pic. Thanks for the replies. I will just wait it out and see. Just hoping it wasn't a sign of a male. It's only on one plant, doesn't look like male preflowers that I have seen...so not to worried.

It ende up male. But 3 out of 4 isn't bad.
