Cutting and trimming off leaves

I was talking to a guy today who tells me hes been growing for years. He told me that i should trim all the leaves that are not producing any bud. Is this correct? Im not expert this is my first grow so i thought id ask you your thoughts on this?

I trim a few near the bottom for air circulation about 1 week before flowering stage...never during flowering as that is just to much stress...do not trim them all as the fan leaves are needed for PHOTO. and help the plant absorb light. P.S. Leaves do not produce bud.

Noooooooooo!!!!

Take it from a guy who tried defoliating (that'd what they call it, use the search function and "defoliation" and you'll see tons of threads about it.

The leaves hold sugars and starches, and that's where all the flavor comes from, and the energy for growth of the plant. Don't be afraid to take them off after the plant starts to let you know its done with them (later on, when its bigger, and there isn't light penetrating to the bottom). Trust me, leave most of them on, if not all of them.

Defoliation may work for some but in my experience it does more harm than good.

Sigh......here we go again. The plant grew the leaves for a purpose.....to absorb light energy among other things. Please click on any of my links below and see what leaving the leaves on the plant can do for you. I suggest the Mataro Blue link first.
