Hi rollitup!

I started with spacebuckets



and just kept on going. Now I have this





The bin in the centre containers a carbon filter and mixed flow fan. The exhaust from the fan travels downwards into a muffled area, this also cools the 12V power supply for the side lighting.

Each lid contains a single Cree CXA3070 @ 1800mA and 8 x 10W LED bulbs. The bins are lined with foil tape and 10 metres of 7020 LED strip.

They're in hempy buckets and fed by the feed bottle.

I have had a lot of fun building and maintaining this. It's far exceeded my expectations.

welcome @BinGrower ,

one thing I've noticed on the spacebuckets subreddit -- no one seems to have figured out that a micro sog with rooted clones straight to 12/12 is probably one of the best bets for that platform in terms of yield. I'm building a few buckets of my own so i can do light cycle testing, I'll see what I can do to show that community possibilities outside of growing from seed and severe LST.

what's the advantage of this system?
Well unlike a tent I can have the whole lot packed up and concealed in less than 10 minutes. That's about it. It is nice to be able to grab a plant and put it in the bath tub to give it a flush regardless of the light cycle.

It's just a hobby that I enjoy.

Re: SOG in a bucket. I don't think anyone would doubt that SOG will give bigger yields faster, it does in almost any grow right?

Very cool setup. Do you train the plants? How long do you veg for? What happens if they get too big and grow into the lights? Do you feel that the LED side lighting does much? I was looking to use the strip lights a while back.

Definitely. I train the plant out under a wire pot stand



Once it's filled out I flip and let the colas head for the lights. Veg time is a little longer because of the aggressive training, 5 weeks usually. I hadn't had any problems with height with any of my soil grows. By flipping to flower at the right moment I was able to keep them under control. Since I've switched to hempy buckets it's been another story and I've had to start building spacers




The LED strips are only effective within a very close range but they definitely have a big impact. All of the outer colas will produce good buds all the way down their length. It's important to use the brightest strips and wire them in short lengths for maximum output.

I'm doing some testing on this theory (taking some comparative light and heat readings from 5630s vs 1W panels), but this is where I think the bucketeers would do well with going with good 1w LEDs -- for side lighting.
5M of 1:1:1 5630 WW:CW:Red cut in 10" lengths, arranged as 1 rectangle of light, run @ ~50W at the plug
@3" 32K Lux
@5" 20K Lux
@10" 9K Lux
mounted on tin sheet (throw away baking tin) reached 120 F

24 3W Leds (run < 1W each @ 300ma) for total of 21W at the plug (1:1:1 of CW:WW:640nm R)
@3" 49K Lux
@5" 27K Lux
@10" 9K Lux
mounted on 1.6mm thick aluminum reached 110 F

the disadvantage of 5630s and 7020s is knowing if you are getting any kind of quality SMD chip. You can buy quality SMD strips but they usually demand a premium. I'm not knocking SMD strips - I probably have 50m + of various strips that I play/test with.
