Has anyone ever made a dwc system?? Im trying to make a 8 plant system but i want to make sure the system will have enough room to grow 8 nice plants so i can yield atleast a 1/2 pound.:joint:

It looks like it would be better to just buy one. Maybe im wrong though. Im just scared the toat that ill be using will be to small and the plants wont have enough space to grow.

If you squeeze 8 plants into a tote you have to keep them small for sure. I don't care how big the tote is. You going for short veg. periods and smaller plants or bigger plants? If you are going bigger just do a single site DWC bucket...if not keep searching maybe someone has a good recommendation for you...I don't think it's possible to do 8 plants in a tote, just my opinion though.

yea its tough to find a good res the size you want so i had to bite the bullet and buy a hydro res for $100. around 43" x 22" x 12" Im glad i did, then i put the holes in the lid as I wanted them arranged to maximise space and light for my babies. I grew 6 huge plants in it and yeilded 1lb using a 400Watt HPS. so quantity really doesnt matter as much as how much light you got. you can fit like 5 to 10 plants in that res depending how u are growing them, like SOG or just regular

other than that you can also do each plant in a separate 5 gallon bucket and that way you can move them around to share the light. you connect all the buckets a to a main res where you manage the nutes and impregnate the water with air

so if you wanna do it separate study the General Hydroponics "HydroFarm" its an easy design to replicate. if not then get a large res that will give each plant around 1 square foot of room maybe a lil less.

i would recommend getting some flexible rubber hose and use it as a drain for your system. I would also highly recommend buying like one of those water lines you can use for your fridge ice makers so you can fill up your res without carrying water. this wil be the best invesment you will make and make your life 100% easyer.

and thats pretty much it. I would also get the General Hydroponics dual diaphram air pump for max airflow to the roots for $50 or a similar high output pump.

i also have a little submersible water pump with 8 way hose splitter. this brings constantly fresh nutinated water to my net pots. however this water pump is not required, you can just hand water them untill the roots grow into the airated resiviar

let me know if you need anything else

You think i should go with a drip system? I can use what ever system is best, just coming up with how to build the system is googles job :)

I think im just gonna go with a drip system or ebb and flow. Ill have 8 buckets and use clay pellets. Does this sound right?

sounds better to me, like panda said the individual buckets are easy to maintain and move around. I know you can get 8 plants in a tote but how easy is it going to be and how successful? It's a hard thing to keep 8 plants healthy in any size tote. Drip, ebb and flow, whatever you like and are comfortable with is what you want to do, don't ask me I don't know your situation. I personally do a lot of DWC and aero, and combinations of the two. But this is what I like and fits my situation best.

tough call I have a couple different sysytems and grows going at once. For my DWC and aero stuff I usually pull about 2-4 plants out every week, not sure what I get every 2 months but it's enough to keep my appetite for weed fueled...lol.

Or one big airstone, lol. That's an easy DWC, best way to do it. Also blck totes keep light out but if you are using HIDs cover the res with some sort of plastic, the black will heat your res up. Easy and cheap, that's why I like hydro...easy and cheap.

Also for anyone doing their first hydro grow I would recommend single site units, better to screw up one plant at a time. Also start simple no need to build 9 single site buckets with a central controller when you haven't even done any growing yet. Plus remember that when you feed off of one res. or use a tote system that all plants get the same feed....no way to pull plants aside and give them special care like you can in soil or single site hydro units. Good luck and have some fun with it first then design your "monster" unit.
