Let’s talk about dabs with prof. @Metasynth and of course adjunct prof. @shrxhky420

I’m the dean of this pay as you go telecourse, Paul Drake, aka DPD.

We know there are some of you out there who dabble in the dark, with bangers and straws. Hands up.

I’ve got some lovely pre-98 Bubba Kush on the mat.

First question, I’ve always wondered who favors banging? I love to cold bang and why do you do what you do?

For me it’s taste, taste and not choking :eyesmoke:

Gotta pay respect to hashmastakut, one of the fathers of true dabbing. Anyone remember these??

Swing and bell tek, pioneered by Hashmastakut. This is the birthplace of dabbing as we know it.

while “honey oil” has been around for much longer, it wasn’t until HMK and crew took a torch to a martini bowl, inverted it, and attached a swing. I believe this tek is one of the first methods of dabbing using an indirect heat source

Next came a method that most of us may be familiar with. The nail and dome tek. While I believe it began with glass nails and doors…

It wasn’t long until titanium nails briefly became the rage. Glass nails tended to crack when heated and cooled repeatedly, so titanium became the next readily available material for nails

Those were in fashion for a few years before “domeless nails” became a thing. Why mess with the extra piece of a dome when you didn’t

It was also around this time that quartz started to gain traction in the movement…
 
Quartz glass is more structurally stable, and resistant to fluctuations in heat. So now we had a form of glass that we could heat repeatedly with a torch without it cracking

It wasn’t long until they found a way to make domeless nails out of quartz as well. So now you could take any of your old dab rigs and convert it into a domeless streamlined quartz nail dab rig

These were cool for a while, and the next major innovation came around…electric nails. Or rather, a heated coil that wraps around your nail, and eliminates the need for a torch. However, it also tethers your rig to a machine. These remain very popular in some circles to this day

Also around this time, quartz bangers swung on to the scene…my current preferred method of dabbing.

and of course, enail coils were developed for these as well…

This remains very popular at the time of this post.
 
Now there are also some more outlandish ways to ingest concentrates. Of course there are electric ‘dab’ pens…

And there are even special straws called nectar collectors, where you heat one end, and dip it into concentrates while inhaling from the other end. Some even hold water in the middle to cool the vapor.

Cat broke my dab rig and I swear I’ll never buy another.

I’m waiting to buy a puffco peak.

I bought a terp pen from the dispensary and it sucks! Kid says you have to clean it after every time you use it. I said I did I’m not a virgin. He says you have to clean it after every dab! Fuck that.

I do love terp balls.

Currently burn everything, me twice, with white rhino ceramic straw. Bitch gets HOT!!! Hate it. It’s already grown a big ole ring inside of the tip. What causes that @Metasynth? From the glass melting or what. Narrows it down till the opening is a pin hole.

Anyone have a recommendation on dab straws?

cold bangers, I dab rosin exclusively and I find the flavor difference is very noticeable

Puffco Peak is great for lazy and on the go smoking, had one for over a year but it can’t beat a clean banger dab!

still have the OG swing arm, nail, quartz nails and a couple bangers

Well here’s my deal. I’ve got some pretty bad tremors and I thought the puffco would help. What do you think?

I like this one for cold starts. I use this exclusively for rosin. It just makes the experience sooo much more enjoyable.

Grab something from China?
I bought a couple of these for Christmas gifts. I think they were like 16 bucks. Shipping was only around 3 weeks during holiday season in the middle of Covid.
